‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Trailer Details

The Avengers movies have ruled the box office with each entry. Now, a massive group of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are charging to the big screen to hopefully recapture that magic once again. Potentially their biggest threat yet, Doctor Doom will surely give the multitude of heroes a run for their money.

The first full trailer for Avengers: Doomsday was finally released online, so let’s take a look at what details it has to offer.

Avengers: Doomsday | Official Trailer | In Theatres December 18

Characters

In true MCU fashion, one of the main draws is which characters are showing up. Because this is an Avengers movie, there are a lot of them. This includes the Fantastic Four, many members of the X-Men, the remaining Avengers, the Thunderbolts/New Avengers, the Wakandans, Namor, Shang-Chi, Loki, and Steve Rogers. That’s a stacked cast that will surely get any Marvel fan excited. The character interactions will likely be extremely entertaining.

Doctor Doom

We get our first real glimpse at Doctor Doom and hear his voice for the first time. He looks and sounds incredibly menacing, as he should. His mask is daunting, and his accent works for the character. He definitely seems intimidating, but it will be cooler to actually see him in battle. Until we see that, this is enough to get excited over.

What’s particularly intriguing is that Doctor Doom says that something they are unable to deter is coming and that everyone will have to face an important decision. It’s a safe guess that the ”something coming” is an incursion, but what’s the decision? Which timeline gets to remain intact? How they’ll fix everything? Only time will tell what this grand decision is.

Thor’s Speech

In the trailer, Thor says that they’re all about to face a threat stronger than he’s ever faced, and that allies stronger than the ones in this movie had fallen facing it. This makes Doom seem like even more of a threat. It’s solid buildup. The movie doesn’t go super deep into what the actual premise of the movie is, but this dialogue from Thor is spine-tingling. It’s hard not to be curious to see how the heroes get out of this one.

Action

The trailer provides a very small taste of the action that we can expect to see in the film. With the run time being over two hours and there being tons of comic book superheroes, there will surely be a lot of fantastic fight scenes. The majority of the action shown here is between Gambit and Shang-Chi. What we see of this fight alone is incredible, with both heroes using their powers and fighting skills to their fullest. It looks like it will be so much fun to watch. There’s also a quick glimpse of Mystique battling Yelena and transforming into her, which looks super cool. If the rest of the action is anything like these small scenes, then this will be an absolute thrill ride for moviegoers.

Thoughts and Theories

From what we can see in this one trailer, heroes from various timelines will be coming together to stop Doom, who has something to do with an incursion. That’s why Loki is here for the TVA. It works well with everything that’s been set up during the Multiverse Saga. That being said, there are some things worth pondering. One is Steve Rogers. Is it really him, a Steve from a different timeline, or Loki in disguise? The Internet seems to be debating this pretty heavily, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out.

Something else worth questioning is why certain characters are missing. Where are Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, the Eternals, Moon Knight, Iron Heart, Doctor Strange, Hawkeye, Star-Lord, or other characters? Surely they will want to defend their Earth as well. It’s weird to have these capable heroes not involved with saving their planet. Perhaps they’ll show up at some point.

With all that being said, this is a solid tease to get fans feeling excited. Sure, there’s the concern that there will be too many characters overstuffing the plot, and this does feel a little too similar to Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame where the heroes will lose in this first one just to come together in the next one. However, it still does look like a fantastically fun time at the theater. The action, the characters, and the suspense of the impending doom looks like fans have a lot to look forward to with this one.
