Major comic book events are often a lot of fun for readers. They feel special and exciting, and usually lead to big payoff for the recent canon stories that precede them. One major recent event in the world of comics was DC K.O.
DC K.O. took many of the universe’s biggest heroes (and villains) and pitted them against each other in a fight-to-the-death tournament to determine who will become the King Omega. The King Omega is essentially the being who would take over for Darkseid and reshape the world in their image to ensure Darkseid does not do that himself. Instead of the world being a fiery hellscape of death, it can be whatever the heroes (or villains) dreamed of.
I won’t spoil the outcome here, because it’s far from what you’d expect, but I will highly recommend this to any comic reader or anyone who loves these characters. Each main issue of DC K.O., which there are five of, features a different round of the tournament. Each round had different rules and different goals, all of which were extremely exciting to read. Deadly races, shocking team-ups, riveting scavenger hunts, and intense one-on-one battles make the whole run a wildly entertaining ride. I say “each main issue” because there’s also DC K.O.: Boss Battle, which features the heroes of the DC Universe taking on foes from other IPs during the tournament. The likes of Homelander, Sub-Zero, Sabrina Spellman, Anabelle the haunted doll, and more appear in a truly epic crossover as part of this event.

All of DC K.O. is extremely exciting. It’s so good that it’s easily one of the best comic events in recent years. The stakes are higher than they ever have been before, the action is so intense it can get your blood pumping, it features battles fans have been craving for years, and focuses on a wide variety of characters. It’s a culmination of everything that has been building up in the main continuity as well as the Absolute universe. It focuses on plenty of fan favorite heroes and villains. It features a crossover with other IPs. It’s chock full of fan service moments, but it’s not just about that fan service; it’s actually an intriguing storyline.
It feels like it’ll be impactful on the DC Universe for years to come. DC K.O. is everything a comic book event should be. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you’re sorely missing out.
