Nintendo Switch 2 Launch Games Predictions

The Nintendo Switch hit store shelves back in 2017. Since, it’s become one of the most successful video game consoles of all time. It’s been around for a while now, so the hardware does feel like it has some restraints. Because of this, it’s safe to assume that the Switch’s successor should be announced any day now.

With every new gaming console, new next-gen games are to follow. This begs the question: what games could realistically launch along with the Nintendo Switch’s successor? Here are just some of the possibilities.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

We know that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has been in development for a while now. It was originally announced a handful of years ago, and there have been updates on it sprinkled here and there since. It’s apparently almost done, but there is still no exact release date for it. Nintendo knows it’s something fans are dying for. There’s a good chance they’re saving it for the next console to ensure more sales of it. Perhaps it will be a dual console launch like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild releasing for the Wii-U and the Switch.

Mario Kart 9

Mario Kart is one of the best-selling franchises in Nintendo’s library. It’s been about a decade since the last installment was released. The updates and DLC that have been released over time have kept it feeling fresh and new, but it’s definitely time for an actual new one. With Mario Kart comes guaranteed success, so it would be a no-brainer o bring the fan-favorite kart racer to the next console.

New 3D Mario

Super Mario is Nintendo’s biggest mascot, so it’s safe to assume he’ll have a big presence on their new console. Ever since 3D video games were created, each major Nintendo console has had a mainline 3D Mario game. The Nintendo 64 had Super Mario 64, the GameCube had Super Mario Sunshine, the Wii had Super Mario Galaxy, and the Switch had Super Mario Odyssey. It’s hard to say what they’ll do with 3D Mario games going forward, but it would feel odd to not have a new one on their next major console.

New Donkey Kong Country

Donkey Kong has been a long-time staple of Nintendo since the days of the video arcade. DK really got time to shine when he got his own series separate from Mario, which is Donkey Kong Country. Each of these 2D platformers are an absolute blast to play and have plenty of fans. The recent ports of Donkey Kong Country Returns and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze on the Switch could spell good news for everyone’s favorite necktie-wearing gorilla.

ARMS 2

ARMS was a surprise hit when it was released on the Switch. It’s a unique game that fans quickly took to, so much so that it found its way into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The creative fighting game needs a new installment with new colorful characters and interesting Arms to bring into battle. It would be a great way to show off how good the updated motion controls are.

New F-Zero

Nintendo is long overdue to release a new F-Zero game. The futuristic racing series is extremely popular, and fans have been clambering for it for years now. F-Zero 99 gained a massive following when it was released on the Switch. Perhaps it gathered enough attention to the IP that Nintendo will look into developing an actual, full new F-Zero game for their new console.

New Animal Crossing

Animal Crossing has always had its fans, but Animal Crossing: New Horizons took the world by storm when it kept everyone company during the beginning of the pandemic. Since then, the game has become a household name even among the most casual of gamers. Taking advantage of that popularity would be a wise move in order to sell consoles. It’s also been a handful of years since the last one, and it’s a series that Nintendo actually seems to care about.

New Super Smash Bros.

Super Smash Bros. is a celebration of Nintendo’s history that has had representation on just about all their major consoles since it was originally developed on the N64. Having one released for the new console should be an obvious decision. Plus, new hardware should be able to support an even larger roster, believe it or not. It makes the most sense to get Smash Bros. on the console early in its lifespan so that they could add characters, stages, and other fun unlockables over time.
