‘Sonic’ Characters Who Need Their Own Spin-Off After ‘Knuckles’

Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog live action movies have proven to be massive hits. It only makes sense to have the franchise grow into a cinematic universe. The Knuckles spin-off TV series has been released, and it premiered with the best critical reception of the franchise thus far. Because of this success, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see other characters from the video games receive their own live action spin-off series or movies as well. Here are some Sonic the Hedgehog characters who need their own spin-off titles in this “Sonic Cinematic Universe.”

Shadow the Hedgehog

With all the hype leading up to Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which will have a lot of focus on Shadow, he’s probably the most obvious choice. With the fan-favorite character starring in his own game in 2005, a Shadow the Hedgehog movie adapting said game would be a clear route to take. A TV series that follows his adventures with Rouge and Omega as they go on missions for G.U.N. would make for a solid follow-up. Shadow is one of the most popular characters in the canon, so any Shadow-centered project is sure to be a hit.

Team Chaotix

Team Chaotix are detectives in the world of Sonic the Hedgehog. A detective show set in this universe would undoubtedly be a blast. Vector, Espio, and Charmy are all fun characters, and any sort of witty banter between them is wildly entertaining. They’d make for the perfect goofballs to center a TV series around.

Miles “Tails” Prower

Tails is Sonic’s loveable best friend and sidekick. However, Sonic Adventure gave him an incredible arc in which he grew to be more of his own character. A movie or series of his very own could do the same for this version of him. Plus, Tails has starred in two video games, so using him as the protagonist isn’t exactly far-fetched.

Amy Rose

Amy Rose is a classic character that fans adore. She’s one of the main characters who we have yet to see in the live action adaptations and that needs to change. She hasn’t been the main character of a video game, but she’s been given some amazing stories throughout her long history. Her rivalry with Zero in Sonic Adventure, for instance, would make for a fun movie or series.

Silver the Hedgehog

Silver is a telekinetic hedgehog from a dystopian future who travels back in time to the present in order to save his world. This is every superhero movie fan’s dream. His story is unique and his powers would allow for truly entertaining action sequences. Because of this, seeing Silver the Hedgehog on the silver screen is a must.

Blaze the Cat

There is a version of Blaze the Cat from the same future as Silver, but the more interesting version of Blaze is a princess from another dimension. She uses her fire manipulation powers to protect the Sol Emeralds. A dimension-hopping adventure with fire abilities and a heroine who is also royalty? This sounds like a must-see blockbuster.

Babylon Rogues

Jet the Hawk, Wave the Swallow, and Storm the Albatross are the Babylon Rogues, a legendary band of thieves who descend from an ancient people. They use skill with hoverboards known as Extreme Gear to be the best thieves they can be as well as the fastest racers in the world. Races and heists paired together sound like a riveting blockbuster, and learning more about Ancient Babylon could lead to some fascinating worldbuilding.

Metal Sonic

Metal Sonic, Sonic’s evil robot counterpart, genuinely believes that he is the real Sonic. Sure, Metal Sonic will likely be used as an antagonist in an upcoming project soon. However, a tale of this cold-hearted machine going on a journey of self-discovery and figuring out his identity could prove to be a deep and intriguing one. His arc in Sonic the Hedgehog the Movie (also known as Sonic the OVA) is somewhat similar to this, but giving the story the proper amount of time could allow the audience to truly feel what Metal is going through.

Tikal

Tikal is the daughter of the chief of the ancient Echidna Warriors. She lived thousands of years in the past, but went through turmoil to protect the Master Emerald from her own people when they wanted to use its power during war. She stood up against those she cared about in an attempt to keep the peace rather than let war and violence rage on. Tragically, she fails. Sonic Adventure dives pretty deep into this arc, and the character has made a handful of appearances since. A TV series of what she and the rest of the Echidna tribe went through would be great for worldbuilding and backstory for this cinematic universe, and could even be an exciting way to introduce the always-adorable Chao.
