After the credits rolled at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it was revealed that Star-Lord will return. It’s not known if any of the other characters will be appearing in the future, but it’s been made clear this was not the last we’ve seen of Peter Quill. The question, though, is how he’ll return. Here are just some ways that we may see Star-Lord continue on in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Joining the Avengers

The last time we saw Quill, he had returned to Earth to get to know his grandfather. If something were to happen to put the Earth in danger, Peter’s not the kind of guy to stand idly by. He’d do what’s right and fight to protect it. This could put him on the path of fighting alongside the Avengers (either remaining or new) once again. It’s known that there are at least two more Avengers films on the horizon, so it’s a realistic assumption that he could show up in one or both of them.

Old Man Quill

2019 saw the release of a comic book titled Old Man Quill in which Peter retired from the spacefaring adventure life and ditched the title of Star-Lord. He did so to become the emperor of Spartax, which obviously isn’t the case in the MCU. That doesn’t stop them from using elements from that story though. Perhaps they will age him up a bit. Mantis even joked about his age in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, so maybe that was a hint to them approaching the Old Man Quill arc.

A Nova Movie

One of the Marvel Comics characters who has somehow not been featured in the MCU yet is the space hero known as Nova. We were, however, introduced to the Nova Corps in the very first Guardians of the Galaxy movie. There’s bound to be a Nova standalone film eventually, and he’ll already have cinematic ties to the Guardians. Therefore, Star-Lord making an appearance wouldn’t be farfetched.

New Solo Movie

There could also just be a new standalone Star-Lord movie completely separate from any other character or comic book story. He’s a fun character, and seeing him star in a more traditional and grounded superhero flick could be really entertaining. It could just be Star-Lord taking on a new foe on Earth. Sure, it may not stand out too much from the gratuitous superhero movies that release, but it probably wouldn’t be bad by any means.

Relationship With Kitty Pryde

Star-Lord’s next big screen appearance could have ties to the X-Men. It’s clear that since buying Fox, Disney and Marvel Studios intend on bringing the X-Men to the MCU. In the comics, Peter Quill has a relationship with X-Men member Kitty Pryde. If she’s coming to the cinematic universe and Peter’s on Earth, they could easily work that romantic subplot in. The X-Men having a non-mutant ally in Peter could be an important part of their story. It’s also worth noting that as a part of the Peter Quill/Kitty Pryde arc, Kitty takes up the Star-Lord mantle, which would be extremely cool to see on the big screen in live action. This may potentially be the most farfetched way for Quill to return, but it also has the potential to be the most fun.
