Possible Characters for MultiVersus

MultiVersus is an upcoming free-to-play crossover platform fighting game by Warner Bros. and Player First Games. Some of the world’s most popular characters, from Bugs Bunny to Batman, are battling it out in Super Smash Bros. fashion. Gamers certainly have a lot to look forward to when it finally releases later this year. With this genre of video games, the roster size and who’s on it is extremely important. With Warner Bros. having access to so many properties between what they own and what companies they typically work closely with, the possibilities for playable characters is seemingly endless. Plus, the developers have stated that more characters and other content will be added to it over time, adding to the excitement and the roster potential.

With the amount of hopeful combatants so high, fans can’t help but to speculate about who they want to see make the cut. Let’s take a look at just some of the most realistic possibile brawlers we might see added to MultiVersus

First, we’ll need to consider who’s already been announced to be playable in the game. At the time of writing this, the officially-announced roster includes Shaggy from Scooby-Doo, Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, Harley Quinn, Bugs Bunny, Arya Stark from Game of Thrones, both Fynn and Jake from Adventure Time, Steven and Garnet from Steven Universe, Tom and Jerry fighting together as a duo character, and an original character known as Reindog. It’s also worth noting that there’s been a very promising leak revealing that Rick Sanchez of Rick and Morty fame and Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings are in the game as well. With these characters in mind, we can make some assumptions and guesses as to who else we may get the chance to play as.

Other characters from franchises that we already know are represented in the roster are relatively safe bets. Shaggy’s in, so how could they not include Scooby-Doo? He is one of Warner Bros.’ biggest mascots afterall. You truly cannot discuss Warner Bros. mascots without bringing the Looney Tunes into the conversation. Bugs is in, so why no Daffy Duck or the Tasmanian Devil? There may be a good handful of DC Comics characters already announced, but with superheroes and villains making for fantastic fighters, it’s a safe bet we’ll see the likes of the Joker or the Flash joining the battle.

If the leaks are to be believed, then Morty would certainly be plausible since he’s the remaining titular character from Rick and Morty. This would also mean that more Lord of the Rings characters, like Legolas or Aragorn, could be in. The series has a lot of warriors that would work wonderfully for a game like MultiVersus

As for IPs yet to be seen to be included, it would be safest to look at which franchises Warner Bros. owns first. They have some of pop culture’s biggest characters under their umbrella, like Harry Potter, Neo from The Matrix, BeetleJuice, and even King Kong who would clearly need some re-sizing like Ridley in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The Animaniacs would serve as an obvious first party trio fighter since they are literally the Warner Bros. (and sister) and live on the Warner Bros. lot. Emmet or Wildstyle from the LEGO Movie would provide for some of the most unique moves in the entire roster. Dune was one of the biggest movies in recent years, so Paul Atreides’ inclusion would be a wise choice on their end.

They’ve really been pushing that anyone and anything might be possible, so things could get rather silly. Remember, Austin Powers, the Mask, the aliens from Mars Attacks!, the Iron Giant, and Parzival from Ready Player One are all first party characters and have an actual chance of being playable in the same game. It’s truly some wacky stuff.

Warner Bros. has made some pretty iconic video games over the years. This means we could realistically see the likes of Scorpion from Mortal Kombat or Maxwell from Scribblenauts jumping over from their games into MultiVersus. Where MultiVersus is a Warner Bros. fighting game, it would be a massive missed opportunity if characters from Mortal Kombat, the biggest Warner Bros. fighting game, are absent.

WB has a large and iconic library of horror movies to pull characters from. Gizmo and Stripe from Gremlins would lead to a chaotic good time. It and It: Chapter 2 were huge releases, so fans would definitely enjoy being able to play as Pennywise. They even have the legendary Freddy Kreuger in their lineup, who would be extremely fun to play as.

Shaggy and Tom and Jerry’s inclusion proves that any Hanna-Barbera character has a chance to join the fight. Beloved characters like Fred Flintstone, George Jetson, and Dick Dastardly would all make for fantastic playable characters with creative movesets. Fynn, Jake, and Steven Universe all being playable show that any of Cartoon Network’s animated all-stars are viable. Ben10, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Johnny Bravo, Dexter, any member of the Kids Next Door, Ed, Edd, and Eddy, and countless others may be fighters in this game.

The game’s developers have mentioned that anyone and anything is possible, so third party characters are technically possible. It’s doubtful the third party characters will get too crazy, like Mickey Mouse or Goku, but some are actually pretty likely. For the most realistic third party characters, we can look at which companies work with Warner Bros. closely. For this, just take a gander at what’s on HBO Max, who appeared in Space Jam: a New Legacy, and who is seen in LEGO Dimensions, The LEGO Movie, and The LEGO Batman Movie. These have shown that the likes of Godzilla, the Wicked Witch of the West, the Doctor, and others could all possibly make the roster at some point.

As you can see, MultiVersus has the potential to have an enormous and diverse roster. This is just one of the many elements of the game that makes its release that much more exciting. Which characters do you hope make the cut?
