Nerdy News 1/7/21

Here’s the breakdown of the latest news in nerd culture:

Nintendo is Buying Developer Next Level Games

The Vancouver-based Next Level Games has become acquired by Nintendo after over a decade of developing video games for them. Next Level Games has created seven games for the gaming giant, including Super Mario Strikers, Metroid Prime: Federation Force, and Luigi’s Mansion 3

Next Level Games was founded in 2002, and it seems like they’re not going away anytime soon now that they have one of the biggest companies in gaming taking care of them. It’ll be exciting to see what other fun experiences they create with Nintendo’s beloved characters and franchises.

Wonder Woman 3 Already Announced

A third Wonder Woman film is already in the works over at Warner Bros. The announcement came just days after the opening weekend of Wonder Woman 1984. The superhero sequel’s box office and HBO Max performance was absolutely stellar (for a movie released during a global pandemic), which was more than enough to convince the studio to continue Wonder Woman’s big screen journey.

Not much is known yet about the upcoming sequel, but Patty Jenkins is planning to direct, and Gal Gadot will return as the titular hero. The film is currently expected to be the last of a trilogy.

Dexter Revival Reveals Villain

The hit TV series Dexter is returning for a ten-episode season that will serve as a second finale, which fans are hoping makes up for the original series’ unsatisfying ending. This revival of the show has found its primary antagonist, who will be played by Clancy Brown. Brown is known for a wide variety of roles, including Lex Luthor in Superman the Animated Series, Mr. Krabs in Spongebob Squarepants, and Captain Hadley in The Shawshank Redemption.

Brown will be portraying Kurt Caldwell, the unofficial mayor of the town of Iron Lake. Caldwell is described to be a classic figure you should never cross: kind to his friends and ruthless to his enemies.
