‘The Muppets Take The Marvel Universe’ Stories Ranked

The Muppets have conquered the small and big screen and have graced the world of entertainment for decades. Now, they’re taking on the Marvel Universe in a new comic book crossover. The Muppets Take The Marvel Universe brings the pop culture icons into the world of Marvel Comics for some wacky adventures.

The comic book is broken up into a handful of stories, with some being more entertaining than others. Let’s see how they all stack up against each other.

6) Muppets Assemble!

“Muppets Assemble!” is the final story in the book, and it features a wide variety of Muppets auditioning to join the Avengers, with them all being shot down for being too silly and not at all helpful. Wouldn’t it have been a more entertaining story if those ridiculous abilities, like throwing fish and telling bad stand-up comedy, actually worked? Seeing the Muppets using their silliness to actually stop villains and save the day would have been hilarious. With the way it is now, this story feels more like it’s there to look down on the Muppets, which just feels wrong.

5) Bad Man

“Bad Man” has Wolverine catch a ride from the Electric Mayhem band. It’s a road trip that’s exactly as fun as you’d expect, and Animal and Logan letting their animalistic rage take over as they doubleteam a car jacker is quite funny. What’s really intriguing about this one is that it’s done without dialogue. It shockingly manages to work quite well. That being said, silencing Dr. Teeth doesn’t entirely feel right.

4) A Terrible Invention

“A Terrible Invention” is quick, but has an absolutely wonderful premise. What if Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker invited Hank Pym and Bruce Banner on their science show? The result is them combining Pym Particles and Gamma Radiation for a giant, hulking Beaker. It’s simple, but hilarious.

3) Just What The Chef Ordered

Clea is sick, and Dr. Strange isn’t able to put together the right soup recipe to help her feel better. Send in the Swedish Chef! In “Just What The Chef Ordered,” Dr. Strange has to put up with the Swedish Chef’s shenanigans so that he can help Clea, but of course chaos ensues. It’s hilarious, a lot of fun, and we get to see Swedish Chefs from all around the multiverse. It’s a small stakes story, but an excellent and unique one.

2) Pigs Of The Galaxy

Of course there had to be a reference to “Pigs in Space” from the classic Muppets TV series, and “Pigs of the Galaxy” is the perfect way to do it. With an incredible crossover with some of the members of the Guardians of the Galaxy, this one is a ton of fun. Captain Link Hogthrob is exposed for his sexist ways, and Miss Piggy gets the last laugh with the help of Rocket Raccoon and Groot. It leads to clever character interactions and an overall blast to read.

1) The Greatest Show (Not) On Earth

“The Greatest Show (Not) On Earth is the primary and longest story in the comic, and it’s also the best one. Mojo kidnaps Rowlf for his interdimensional talent show. The Muppets travel to the Marvel Universe to recruit superheroes to help them save their friend. It all results in the Avengers helping the Muppets put on the greatest show they or anyone could imagine. It’s a unique and absolutely wild team-up that no one could have ever predicted.
