‘Saw’: Dr. Gordon is Still Out There

The Saw movie franchise has followed one giant ten-movie story, and it doesn’t seem like it’s stopping, with at least another movie on the way. John Kramer, a.k.a. Jigsaw, has been trapping people in dangerous “games” to teach them how precious life is since the 2000s. With so many movies and so much story that has already passed, it makes one wonder how it could all continue.

For one, the antagonist from Saw X did get away, so that desperately needs at least one follow-up. However, there is one major detail the folks behind the curtain have been overlooking. Dr. Lawrence Gordon is still out there.

Dr. Gordon was a survivor of an early Jigsaw trap way back in the first movie in 2004. Since then, he had been recruited by Kramer to be one of his little helpers with kidnapping people, designing the games, and setting them up. It was honestly one of the most shocking twists of the whole franchise.

Dr. Gordon had never been seen in a movie since this big reveal in Saw 3D, the seventh film in the series. With him being one of Jigsaw’s right hands for so many years, there’s a really good chance that he’s still out there continuing his work. With him being a doctor, he has the knowhow when it comes to what the human body can take and how to safely get victims into these traps and hide keys and other mechanisms inside their bodies, so he has the skills, the motivation, the training, the experience, and the knowhow.

With Tobin Bell, the actor who plays John Kramer, being in his mid-80s at the time of writing this, and since his character was killed off in the story already, there are only so many more opportunities to use Kramer in the movies. If they hope to continue this franchise, it might make sense for them to bring Carey Elwes back in to reprise his role as Dr. Gordon to be the new Jigsaw. It would work logistically while also making sense with how the story has gone.

Elwes is a fantastic actor, and it would truly be a lot of fun to see him take over the menacing role of Jigsaw in the Saw films.
