The Green Lanterns, whether it be Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz, Kyle Rayner, Guy Gardner, or anyone else who has had the title, are some of the coolest and most creative superheroes around. The ability to make anything you can think of appear in physical form just by using your will power and imagination is both awesome and useful, especially when fighting crime and saving the world.
With so many Green Lanterns and decades of comic book history, there are countless constructs they’ve made over the years. Let’s take a look at some of the coolest ones in all of the DC Comics universe.
10) Hal’s Armor
In 1993’s Return of Superman comic book story, Hal Jordan uses his ring to don a suit of armor. It’s a simple idea, but it looks badass. It also makes him stronger and protects him in an incredibly awesome fight. You’d think he would have used this more often.
9) Space Convertible
One of Kyle Rayner’s best attributes is his style. What’s a better way to fly through space than in a convertible with dice in the mirror? Sure, he could simply fly like every other Lantern, but he chooses a much cooler option.
8) Racecar Track
Simon Baz typically gravitates to car and vehicle themed constructs, but the best will always be the Hot Wheels-esque race track. Need to transport a bunch of people to safety? Build a giant Hot Wheels track for them to ride on in some sick cars. This one is just plain fun.
7) Gatling Gun
The gatling gun is a go-to construct that we’ve seen used by Hal and John more than enough times, and there’s probably an instance of another Lantern using it too. Sure, it’s one that’s seen more than enough, but that’s because it’s awesome. Plowing through foes and dealing big damage when it’s needed is super useful, and it looks really cool. What are aliens and enemy ships going to do against thousands of hard light constructed bullets?
6) Full Armies
There have been times when a Green Lantern has been able to use their ring to summon full armies made up of hard light. Guy Gardner has made an army of mighty villains, including Brainiac and Doomsday. Hal Jordan has created an army of hard light versions of his fellow Green Lantern Corps members. Imagine getting overrun by something this powerful.
5) Fighter Jet
The fighter jet is another staple of Hal Jordan’s construct arsenal, but that’s because it’s a great one. Flying around at rapid speeds and being able to blast foes with missiles is always handy. Plus, it always looks awesome. Other Lanterns have used fighter jet constructs before as well, and it’s probably because they’re legitimately useful while also looking great on the page.
4) Giant Wonder Woman
Jessica Cruz has used her ring to create a giant Wonder Woman to block lava. That’s probably one of the coolest sentences I’ve ever written. She could have just used a big dome to stay safe, but instead she summoned one of the best superheroes in the universe. Not only that, but a huge version that could probably take on any kaiju.
3) Life-saving Medical Equipment
While this is far from the flashiest construct a Green Lantern could make, and isn’t used for battle or travel, it’s genuinely incredible that they’re able to make this and have it actually work. Being a superhero isn’t just all about fighting villains; it’s more about saving lives, and this is a brilliant way to show a unique way they can do that.
2) Giant Pinball Machine
Kyle Rayner has constructed a giant pinball machine, with his opponent trapped in the ball. Not only does he get to have fun playing an exciting game of pinball, but he gets to beat up whoever he puts in the ball, forcing them to bounce off of paddles and obstacles. I like to imagine it’s making all kinds of arcade sound effects as the fight happens. This is easily one of the most fun and creative constructs a Green Lantern has ever made.
1) Giant Mech
A few Green Lanterns have constructed giant mechs on multiple occasions, and it ends up being one of the coolest things in comics every single time. It’s a massive robot meant to dish out pain. It’s great for combat and travel while looking absolutely epic. Genuinely, Lanterns should form giant mechs in just about any fight.
