The Best Clowns in Video Games

Clowns are meant to be funny. Sometimes they are, but they’re often terrifying. Either way, they add a lot of entertainment to whatever media they appear in, whether it be movies, TV shows, books, or video games. Speaking of the latter, there have been some interesting inclusions of clowns in video games over the years. Let’s take a look at some of the best ones.

9) The Pint-Sized Slasher (Fallout 3)

Fallout 3’s Pint-Sized Slasher is super creepy. Kid donning a clown mask to stab his neighbors gives off some major Michael Myers vibes. There’s also an element of dark humor to his appearance in Fallout 3, which fits the killer clown vibe perfectly. That being said, he mostly exists as backstory and is around for a single quest, so he doesn’t have a massive impact on the game by any means, He’s just twisted fun for a small portion of the game.

8) Ninja Clowns (Ninja Clowns)

Ninja Clowns is a classic arcade game where you play as clowns who also happen to be ninjas. It’s a silly concept, but it works for a silly game. These clowns get bonus points for uniqueness, but lose those points for their game not being so great. They also don’t have names, and they’re as forgettable as the game they’re from. Still, ninja clowns are an insanely fun idea.

7) Bonker (ClayFighter)

Bonker is a clown made out of clay who beats people up with kicks and cartwheels. He’s another silly character that fits the silly game he’s from. His lore states that he became mad due to all the people laughing at him, and he’s super fun to play as, even with all the ClayFighter jankiness. Bonker would rank higher on this list if he utilized more “clown-like” moves in his basic attacks rather than just kicking and punching.

6) Circus Baby (Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister Location)

Five Nights at Freddy’s has become a phenomenon. That’s partly due to the terrifying animatronics seen throughout the series. Sister Location adds a particularly creepy creation, an animatronic killer clown named Circus Baby. Possessed by an angry spirit, Circus Baby’s grin is pure nightmare fuel. Her metal exterior makes her an unstoppable force, and therefore one of the scariest on this list. If she was as iconic as the original animatronics, she’d likely be higher on this list.

5) Killer Klowns From Outer Space (Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game)

Yes, the Killer Klowns from Outer Space originated in the classic 80’s flick of the same name, but they do have a huge presence in a fantastic online video game. They’re genuinely a solid mix between scary and funny, and they use many clown gags and tricks to take out their victims, like balloon animals, cream pies, shadow puppets, and more. Not only is running from them a scary good time, but playing as them is pure twisted fun. The coolest part is getting to customize your Klown, making them as creepy or cool as you’d like.

4) Beppi the Clown (Cuphead)

The bosses in Cuphead are famous for their difficulty, and one of the hardest in this blogger’s opinion is Beppi the Clown. He’s incredibly powerful and uses transformation abilities to take on Cuphead and Mugman as a giant balloon, a carousel, and roller coaster. He’s also able to send out plenty of hazards and henchmen to do his bidding. Honestly, looking at what he’s able to do in this carnival environment, it’s easy to believe that he’s a fantastic entertainer and not just a great fighter. That’s what makes him such a great clown. If only he wasn’t just a one-off boss fight…

3) The Joker (Batman Arkham series)

It goes without saying that the Joker is one of the biggest characters in fiction. He’s an incredible villain, and genuinely a great clown. He’s both funny and scary, and poses a threat to one of the greatest superheroes ever. Of course, he has existed in media outside of this video game series for decades, but he still makes a splash as a fantastic video game antagonist. He’s the main villain in an extremely popular video game series, and therefore deserves to be on this list. Him not usually being known for being a video game character specifically prevents him from getting that number one slot, but it’s hard to deny that he’s a great video game clown.

2) Kefka Palazzo (Final Fantasy VI)

Speaking of primary antagonists, Kefka Plazzo from Final Fantasy VI is one of the greatest villains in gaming. Like a true clown, he’s all about creating chaos. Unlike most clowns (probably), he’s driven by nothing but his nihilism. He seems like just a typical, almost pathetic clown at first, but is actually extremely powerful and a mass murderer. He even becomes a god and successfully brings about the apocalypse. He’s a great clown and a terrifying villain, and is easily one of the best villains in all of Final Fantasy.

1) Sweet Tooth (Twisted Metal)

Sweet Tooth is a serial killer clown who drives an ice cream truck in the Twisted Metal video game series. He’s also the mascot of a first party game series by a major developer, which is huge. Wearing his flaming clown mask (which is awesome), he delivers ice cream to all the boys and girls as well as slaughters helpless victims and launches devastating foes in the Twisted Metal tournament. Laughs, ice cream, and blood baths. That’s what Sweet Tooth is all about.
