2025’s Superman ushered in the DCU and a new era of movies based on the world of DC Comics. The next dive into this cinematic universe will be 2026’s Supergirl, starring Milly Alcock. The first teaser trailer for the upcoming film has been released. Let’s take a look at what details it offers about what we can expect in the movie.
Supergirl | Official Teaser Trailer
Krypto
The superpowered canine, Krypto the Superdog, was one of the standout characters in Superman. It’s truly exciting to see him return to the big screen in Supergirl. If he’s joining the adventure through space, it will be fun to see what antics he gets into. That being said, much of this movie could take place during the events of Superman, in which case he’ll sadly be absent throughout a lot of it. Either way, seeing him to any extent will be a lot of fun.
Space Setting
Much of this film will be taking place in outer space. This matches the graphic novel it’s based on, but it also sets the groundwork for a lot of exciting potential. For one, there’s the possibility for unique environments, exciting battles, and unique characters. It also makes one wonder if this space-based story will be used to introduce any alien characters into the DCU, like Martian Manhunter or the Thanagarians or any of the Lanterns.

Contrast With Superman
This trailer does a fantastic job with showing how the character and tone will differ from Superman. Like Supergirl points out, Superman sees the good in people while she sees the truth. She’s much more cynical and brash, and that’s clearly affecting the tone of the film. The action looks more brutal, and the aesthetic looks darker and scummier. It’s really cool that two movies and characters can be so closely related but feel so different.
Supergirl’s Age
Kara mentions in the trailer that she’s turning 23 years old. Some stories focus on the character as a younger teenager, while others have her in her mid-20s, so it’s nice to know what stage of her life they’re going for. With her being the age that she is, she actually remembers the destruction of Krypton, unlike Clark. This has affected the way she looks at the universe and how she behaves. It’s an important detail to know how old she is in the grand scheme of things.
Krypton
This trailer also gives us our first look at the DCU’s version of Krypton. We don’t see too much in terms of important detail other than what the architecture and clothing were like, but it’ll be interesting to see emotional flashbacks of the protagonist’s home coming to an end. What is rather interesting, though, is that if you look closely, there is a city with a dome forming over it and hovering in place as it’s protected while everything else is destroyed. This could very well be either Kandor or Argo City, both of which were preserved during Krypton’s destruction. If it’s Kandor, this could lead into Brainiac’s appearance in the DCU as he infamously “collected” the bottled city. If not, it’ll still be neat to see Argo City on the big screen.

Ruthye
We’re also introduced to Ruthye. In the graphic novel, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Ruthye is a noble and honor-bound warrior who travels across space with Supergirl to hunt down the one who killed her father. It looks like she’ll be serving a similar role in the movie. It’s nice to see the adaptation sticking so close to the source material.
Supergirl’s Powers
The trailer shows Supergirl’s powers in action, including her flight, strength, and heat vision. With her being away from Earth allowing her to feel the effects of alcohol, it does make one wonder if it also meant her powers would be limited. Judging by this trailer, they all seem like they’re intact. Speaking of powers, she mentions that she and Superman are the only ones from her planet with powers, so we know that Zod and other Kryptonians haven’t made their way to Earth yet.

Lobo
In a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shot, the trailer reveals the first look of Jason Momoa’s Lobo. Lobo is an intergalactic mercenary and bounty hunter, and one of the coolest anti-heroes in DC’s lineup of characters. Jason Momoa was born to play this character due to his appearance and his personality, so it’ll be exciting for fans to see him done well in live action on the big screen. The Main Man is coming to the DCU. Let’s hope he gets lots of screen time.
