Just when we thought the Jurassic movie franchise had come to an end, Universal Pictures decided to bring us back to this prehistoric land for another outing. The first trailer for the appropriately titled Jurassic World Rebirth has dropped, so let’s take a look at what the future of this beloved franchise might hold.
Jurassic World Rebirth | Official Trailer
Story
It looks like this latest installment will have a relatively simple story. A group of qualified individuals are sent into a dangerous, remote area to obtain the DNA of specific dinosaurs to use as medicine and make it back home safely. It’s a relief after the somewhat convoluted and busy plots of the last couple of sequels. It’s also nice to see that nothing is being erased that’s been set up; the world is still being roamed by dinosaurs and humans together. It makes one wonder how that will play into this new movie.

Characters
Most of the characters seem like they will be scientists or researchers, but the protagonists, played by Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali, will be hired to help them survive. That will likely make this feel like a mix of the characters we’ve seen in the original Jurassic Park trilogy and the previous Jurassic World movies, with there being focus on both the research and thought-provoking story as well as the high-octane action. It’s worth noting that there are no returning characters in sight. Someone could certainly still appear, but if not, that would make this the first Jurassic sequel without any returning character.
Setting
The series is going back to the original Jurassic Park site… again. This would be exciting if the series hadn’t already done that multiple times. The whole world is now home to dinosaurs. They could have picked any setting. It’s definitely a fantastic idea to return to an isolated setting, but it could have been any isolated setting. A remote island off the coast of Japan or Australia would at least allow things to look new. Revisits are fun, and a return to form is welcome, but we’re now seven movies in. It’s okay for things to look or feel new.

Dinosaurs
Of course, the trailer gives us the first glimpses at the dinosaurs that will be featured in the movie. The effects for them look just as great as ever, and there will be some dinosaurs we’ve seen in the franchise before and some we have not. With various sizes of dinosaurs, some in the water, others in the air, and some heavily mutated, the different kinds are sure to shake up the action throughout. The dialogue in the trailer indicating that some of these dinosaurs are more dangerous than any we’ve seen on screen so far is pretty darn exciting.
Jurassic World Rebirth hits theaters July 2, 2025.
