It’s Okay To Enjoy Modern Episodes of ‘The Simpsons’

The Simpsons is an animated series that has lasted for over thirty seasons and still continues with no end in sight. It goes without saying that it’s become a phenomenon and a pop culture staple. However, the majority isn’t considered to be very good by quite a lot of people.

It’s rather common to see folks, even major fans of the series, say that only the first seven or eight seasons are worth watching. It’s not that they got bored of it after eight seasons because it’s just a lot of television. They say that after a certain point, the TV series became so bad that it’s since been unwatchable, other than those handful of seasons. They cite a few reasons for this, like certain writers like Conan O’Brien leaving the show, the use of celebrities playing themselves, and characters changing too much over time.

Some fans even react with bizarrely extreme amounts of outrage over these changes and this supposed decrease in quality. However, modern episodes of The Simpsons are still entertaining and worth watching. Sure, they’re different from the very first seasons of the show, but that should be expected. Most shows are different after a few seasons, never mind dozens of seasons later. If the series never changed or evolved and kept things the exact same way for over 30 years, it wouldn’t be very interesting, would it? Besides, something becoming different doesn’t mean it’s bad or unfunny. It just means it’s different. The characters and storytelling evolved and the humor has changed, but again, that’s to be expected and doesn’t really ruin anything.

Many of those who claim the series became unwatchable beyond the first handful of seasons have become rather… strange about it. One could say that many of them have become toxic, even. They’ve turned to online bullying and gatekeeping, shaming anyone who disagrees with them or discouraging anyone from watching beyond their desired point if they have yet to see the show for themselves.

It’s perfectly fine to not like the show at all, or to only like certain episodes or seasons. With over 600 episodes of the show, not all of them are going to be winners. That being said, it’s also totally okay to enjoy every single episode of the show’s long run. Regardless of what a lot of people say or think, it’s okay to enjoy modern episodes of The Simpsons

Besides, despite the modern episodes of the long-running series getting so much hate among the community online, the show is still on the air and renewed for more to come. Someone is clearly still watching, otherwise it would have been cancelled long ago. Even folks who haven’t watched in a long time still tune in for the annual “Treehouse of Horror” Halloween event every single year, so all this supposed outrage is all just noise.

No matter what, it’s okay to like what you like and dislike what you dislike, no matter what others think, say, or loudly demand like weirdos.
