Looking for a fun cartoon to binge during the summer? For some great animated series all about sand, sun, and overall summer vibes, check out this list below.
Steven Universe

Steven Universe is about superpowered aliens who defend the Earth. It also primarily takes place in Beach City. The Crystal Gems’ temple, their home and base of operations, is located directly on a beautiful sandy beach. Boardwalk restaurants are also regularly featured throughout the series. Even the end credits often show a view of the summer night sky overlooking the ocean. Enjoy the butt-kicking action and wonderful songs while experiencing plenty of summer vibes.
Ed, Edd n Eddy

Every episode of Ed, Edd, and Eddy except for the final season takes place over the course of a summer vacation. The kids in the cul-de-sac get into all kinds of shenanigans around their neighborhood while the Eds try to scam them for money to buy jawbreakers. Seeing them ride bikes and playing outdoor games with none of the parents around is extremely reminiscent of adventures many of us had in our own neighborhoods during summer breaks.
Phineas and Ferb

As the Phineas and Ferb theme song points out, “there’s 104 days of summer vacation ‘til school comes along just to end it.” Each episode of the series has the stepbrothers finding the wackiest ways to spend their summer vacation. The show points out that every day of summer vacation is an opportunity to do something special. It captures the magic of summer vacation that only kids can truly appreciate.
SpongeBob SquarePants

SpongeBob SquarePants has become one of the biggest animated series of all time. It’s nothing short of iconic. Everyone seems to be familiar with the colorful underwater world that is Bikini Bottom and all the wacky sea creatures who live there. SpongeBob and his nautical friends get into some fun and often bizarre adventures, and they’re always fun in the sun.
Snorks

For another show focused on sea creatures and their underwater adventures, check out Snorks. Snorks is essentially The Smurfs if the characters lived in the ocean. It’s pretty hard to see these unique critters and their homes made of shells and sand castles and not want to go for a swim at the beach.
Digimon

The first season of Digimon, also known as Digimon Adventure, follows a group of seven young kids who went to camp for the summer. There’s even a song in the show that says so. While most folks assume summer camp would be filled with exciting adventures, the usual camp experience doesn’t include getting sucked into a digital world filled with monsters. Digimon really showcases the most extreme summer camp experience ever.
Rocket Power

The hit Nicktoon Rocket Power does feature a couple of wintery snowboarding episodes, but the series mostly focuses on surfing, skateboarding at the beach’s skatepark, and hanging out at the Shore Shack, the boardwalk restaurant run by the father of the protagonists. The whole series takes place in a fictional Southern California town known as Ocean Shores, which is surrounded by beaches and covered in palm trees. This show likely made a lot of kids want to go down to the beach and learn to surf.
Total Drama Island

Total Drama ISland is an animated parody of Survivor that has contestants compete in comically dangerous summer camp-themed challenges. Camp Wawanakwa is the most disgusting, rundown camp ever, but it’s also on an island with some nice beaches. This series combines summer camp with a tropical island for the ultimate summer vibes.
Gravity Falls

For something spookier and more mysterious, give Gravity Falls a watch. A pair of twins are sent to spend the summer with their great-uncle. Not only does the small town it takes place in have summer camp vibes, but spending the summer at an older relative’s house is a pretty common summer experience for a kid. All kinds of supernatural phenomena occur in this town, and the kids help their great-uncle run his tourist trap known as the Mystery Shack. This one is solid for lovers of “summer-ween.”
Camp Lazlo

If you’re looking for a series that showcases a more traditional summer camp experience, Camp Lazlo is a particularly fun one. Anthropomorphic animals attend a boy scout-like summer camp, with each episode featuring the campers getting into all sorts of shenanigans that tick off their strict scoutmaster. It offers an exaggerated look into experiences that many folks had during their childhood summers.
Lilo & Stitch: The Series

After the events of the fan-favorite Disney animated movie, Lilo and Stitch’s adventures continue in Lilo & Stitch: The Series. The best friend duo traverse the islands of Hawaii to track down alien experiments, stop them from wreaking havoc, and help them find a home on Earth. It’s action-packed, funny, wholesome, and filled with gorgeous, tropical environments. It takes place in what serves as one of the most popular vacation spots around, giving it particularly summer vibes.
Summer Camp Island

Summer Camp Island is obviously another cartoon about the campers at a summer camp. What’s not so obvious is what’s going on at this summer camp. There are camp counselors who are witches, ghosts, yetis, posted notes that lead to other dimensions, and a slew of other crazy occurrences. It’s definitely another strong choice for those who prefer spooky season but still want to enjoy summer vibes.
