‘Batman: Caped Crusader’ Season 1 Trailer Details

Batman: The Animated Series has become known as one of the greatest cartoons in history, as well as the definitive version of Batman. It also helped to save the comic book industry (alongside the X-Men animated series) in the 90s. Because of this, it’s particularly exciting that Bruce Timm, the creator of Batman: The Animated Series is developing a new Batman cartoon. This new series, Batman: Caped Crusader, is also being produced by Matt Reeves (The Batman director) and filmmaker J.J. Abrams and will be released on Amazon Prime Video.

The trailer for Season 1 of Batman: Caped Crusader has been released, so let’s take a look at the biggest details it has to offer.

Animation

The animation is clearly more updated and modern, but the style is very reminiscent of Batman: The Animated Series. It’s a style that looks incredible, and it’s a look that many fans associate with DC Comics thanks to the DC Animated Universe of the 90s and early 2000s. This animation alone is enough to fill a lot of people with nostalgia.

Villains

There’s a slew of iconic Batman villains shown throughout the trailer. This includes Two-Face, Firefly, Catwoman, and more. Onomatopoeia is even shown, which is cool given that he doesn’t always get the love he deserves. Hopefully this means we can expect to see more underrated baddies. There looks to be new takes on familiar characters as well, like a much darker and more serious take on Harley Quinn.

The Police Don’t Trust Batman

The police don’t trust the Caped Crusader. This is far from the first story to focus on that, but it may indicate that this show takes place early on in Batman’s career as a crime fighter. It could also lead to some interesting conflicts as Batman will need to take down criminals while also worrying about the cops getting in the way. Hopefully Jim Gordon will still be a loyal friend to him in this version.

For a More Mature Audience

From the trailer, it looks like the show will be a bit more mature than the likes of Batman: The Animated Series. There’s gunfire, dead bodies, and people being burned alive. It doesn’t look to be needlessly gory, but it’s noticeably for an older audience. This is quite exciting, as it likely means that there won’t be any holding back or forced into any limitations that media aimed at kids often is.

Noir Feel

Like 2022’s The Batman, this take on Batman looks to have a dark, noir feel to it. There will be actual detective work, Gotham looks just as scummy as ever, gangsters and common criminals will play a role rather than just the supervillains, and there seems to be a nihilistic approach to how the city is run and how it has been protected before the Batman came around. It’s an entertaining subgenre that works perfectly for the character and his lore.
