After the events of Steven Universe Future, the Steven Universe series as a whole came to an end. That being said, there’s still a way for the franchise to continue with a spin-off. The door is still open for the continued adventures of Lars and the Off Colors.
Lars was a friend of Steven’s from Beach City who was a normal human until he was abducted to the Gem Homeworld, killed, and resurrected by Steven’s healing powers. When he came back to life, he was pink and obtained similar abilities to Lion. He then helps a group of refugee Gems escape Homeworld because they’re being hunted for not meeting the normalities put in place by the Diamonds. That group of Gems is known as the Off Colors. Together, they traveled through space in their very own spaceship.

The finale of Steven Universe shows Lars and the Off Colors finally making it to Earth. However, in Steven Universe Future, they leave Earth once again to resume space exploration and to find new adventures. Those new space adventures would make for a truly exciting spin-off series.
The Steven Universe episode “Lars of the Stars” showcases what their space adventures are like. As a team, they battle against an evil Gem named Emerald Star Trek-style. This is exactly how their own spin-off could be. The Off Colors, with Lars as their captain, could feature more of their space adventures. Perhaps they’d help other Gems across the galaxy who also fled the planet. If that wouldn’t be exciting enough, maybe there would be an evil group of Gems who preferred the old ways of how Homeworld was run and want to revert it back to that. It would be up to Lars and the Off Colors to stop them. Heck, “Lars of the Stars” would be a perfect title for the series.

Each of the Off Colors have plenty of room for character development, and Lars still seems to be searching for his place in life. There’s plenty that can be done with both external and internal conflicts to make this an extremely fun and emotional show. If it comes even a little close to how well Steven Universe handled emotional arcs, then this could easily be a hit. Let’s not forget that the high-flying action through space and on different planets could make it stand out a lot from the rest of the franchise.
