Where can ‘TMNT: Mutant Mayhem’ Go Next?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem has been doing quite well with audiences and critics and has been a box office success. It’s no surprise that a sequel movie and a Paramount+ TV series have both been greenlit already. The question is, though, where will the story go after the events of the film? There are quite a few elements in Mutant Mayhem that may be setting up some interesting and fun stories for future installments.

Spoilers for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem are ahead.

First off, the biggest and most obvious tease comes from the mid-credits scene. This final sequence of the movie reveals that the Shredder is on his way to hunt the Turtles down. The Shredder being the next antagonist is far from a surprise given that he’s the Turtles’ archnemesis and is typically the major big bad of most TMNT media. It’s still nice to know that he will be included in this take on the Turtles.

There are plenty of stories that could be used featuring the Ninja Turtles fighting the Shredder, but one that could be particularly interesting with this version is if Karai comes along with him. So much of Mutant Mayhem revolved around how Splinter parented the Turtles. Seeing the positive ways Splinter parents versus the negative and toxic ways the Shredder does could lead to an emotional storyline.

It’s a safe bet that we haven’t seen the last of Cynthia Utrom. It may also be a safe bet that she’ll be revealed to be an Utrom, an alien from Dimension X. She could even be the one and only Krang, or at least the Kraang-equivalent of this universe. Her face and glasses are similar to the Super Krang armor. Plus, the color scheme of their clothing matches. Where her last name is Utrom and she’s running TCRI, she’s likely an Utrom herself, whether or not she is Krang. This could mean that she’s the true threat and the reason why this Mutant Mayhem will continue. It could also set up interdimensional storylines which could be a lot of fun.

The movie introduces Baxter Stockman, the genius scientist who has been a staple of most TMNT media. He’s knocked unconscious early on (he may have been killed but it’s never confirmed) and is absent from the rest of the movie without ever becoming a fly. Superfly is his creation though, making Baxter and the fly two separate characters. That being said, there’s still a chance he’ll become Baxter the Fly. During the mid-credits scene, Cynthia Utrom has a fly in a jar next to her. Perhaps, assuming she still has Baxter locked up somewhere, she’ll fuse the two together, making Baxter into the fly he’s often known to be.

Finally, and for what may be the biggest stretch, there could be something more involving the captain of the TCRI guards. Early in the film, he receives an eye injury and is wearing an eyepatch for the remainder of its runtime. It could just make him look like a cool henchman meant to sell action figures, but you never know with the world of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Looking at mutants from the franchise who are known to wear eyepatches, one major one comes to mind, and that’s Tiger Claw from the 2012 animated series. Him being the lead henchman who’s skilled with a wide array of weaponry also fits the character quite well. This may just be wishful thinking.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem has introduced fans to a brand new universe for their favorite pizza-eating ninjas. Because of this, the possibilities for where the series can go are completely endless.
