Fans of Avatar: the Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra have a lot to look forward to with brand new canon movies and TV series in the works. When Legend of Korra released, audiences got a glimpse of how much the world had changed from the original series. Now with new content finally on the way, it’s a safe assumption that the world has only evolved further. The events of The Legend of Korra set up many big changes, and we’ll likely see the outcome of them in the next series.
For instance, we might be seeing a lot more spirits lurking around the world. Korra bridged the spirit world with the living world. Spirits and mortals may now be used to living in harmony, or they may be struggling to do so. It also looks that humans may be able to cross into the Spirit World more easily. This could open the door for more unique stories and conflicts down the road.

There are also now more airbenders than audiences have seen before. Because of Harmonic Convergence, there was a rebalancing that awakened airbending in a lot more people. Aang’s family are no longer the only airbenders around. After time passes between The Legend of Korra and the next show, there could be even more airbenders. Could there now be as many airbenders as there are other benders? What could that mean for this world?
The Earth Kingdom is under new, better management. In both animated series, we’ve seen the Earth Kingdom suffer under the rule of terrible and cruel leaders. However, Prince Wu looks like he’ll be a surprisingly great leader who wishes to protect his people. The Earth Kingdom looks to be in the best hands it’s ever been in. Perhaps this will lead to stories in the Earth Kingdom that don’t revolve around how horrible it is, and maybe it’ll even become a world power as prominent as Republic City.
A lot of time had passed between Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, so there were plenty of technological advancements. There were cars, mechs, and tech-based weapons. Most of these were thanks to Hiroshi Sato and his corporation. Much of the tools and scenery in Republic City mirrored the Industrial Revolution in real life. If that’s how far things have come from the original series to its sequel, then by the next series technology will almost definitely advance even further. Who knows what sort of tech they’ll have next? Will it reflect our modern day?

The evolution of the world is one of the most intriguing aspects of the next series in the Avatar. There’s a lot to look forward to, like new characters and revisiting old ones, but this evolution has a major impact on them and the story as a whole. Because of it, there are so many new possibilities for the creators to play around with.
