Nerdy News 2/25/20

Here’s the breakdown of the latest news in nerd culture:

Daft Punk Calls it Quits

The French electronic duo Daft Punk announced the end of their 28-year music career earlier this week. They did so in a video they released online titled “Epilogue.” The video featured the two parting ways in a desert with one of them self-destructing and fantastic use of their song “Touch.” Their publicist, Kathryn Frazier, confirmed their departure and said there will be no further comment at this time.

It’s truly a bittersweet end to one of the most iconic artists in electronic music history. They’ve had a long career with six Grammy wins and will be remembered and celebrated for years to come.

The World of Avatar: the Last Airbender is Expanding

The Avatar: the Last Airbender franchise is set to get even bigger. Nickelodeon is launching Avatar Studios, a division designed to create original animated series and movies set in the franchise’s world. The studio will be run by the creators of the original series and The Legend of Korra. The content produced by the studio will release on Paramount+, Nickelodeon, third party platforms, and will even include theatrical releases.

This is extremely exciting news for fans of Avatar: the Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, as this world has so much more lore worth exploring that hasn’t been before. Perhaps we may even get a third animated series following the next Avatar in rotation after Korra or a film following the events of the original series. Only time will tell what sort of content we’ll be able to experience.

The Rugrats are Returning

Nickelodeon’s original Nicktoon is making its return! The reboot of the nostalgic 90’s classic will be 3D-animated this time around, but will feature the original voice cast. The reboot, along with all seasons of the original series, will release on Paramount+. It appears the babies will be getting into similar hijinks as they did roughly 30 years ago.

Many fans may be put off by the updated animation style, but it does appear to be unique compared to other 3D-animated shows and movies. Plus, it’ll be fun to revisit one of the most beloved cartoons ever.

The Next Generation of PlayStation VR Introduced

The first details on the next-generation VR system coming to the PS5 console have been revealed. One of the innovations will be the new VR controller, which will incorporate key features found in the DualSense wireless controller. The new headset will allow players to feel an even greater sense of presence and be more immersed in game worlds than ever before. It is said to be able to connect to the PS5 with a single cord to simplify set up and make movement easier.

It unfortunately won’t be ready before the end of 2021, but fans of VR gaming have a lot to look forward to as VR technology further improves. Fans also eagerly await announcements of what games will be available with the new PlayStation VR.
