The live action Sonic the Hedgehog films have become beloved by long-time fans of the video games and casual moviegoers alike. It’s always exciting to see characters from the source material make their way to the big screen.
The next movie, Sonic the Hedgehog 4, is still about a year away. There’s not much out yet regarding that movie, but the official title reveal dropped online from Paramount Pictures. Usually these just reveal a cool logo, but there’s some intriguing details in this quick video, which can be seen at the link below. Let’s explore what those details are.
Sonic the Hedgehog 4 | Title Reveal (2027 Movie) – Jim Carrey, Ben Schwartz, Kristen Bell
Music
Outside of Amy Rose’s Piko Piko hammer smashing through the space time continuum, the first thing worth discussing is the background music. What’s playing is an orchestrated version of “Sonic Boom,” which is the theme song of the classic video game Sonic CD. Sonic CD was the game that introduced both Amy and Metal Sonic. This could very well be a hint that this movie will primarily pull from Sonic CD for its inspiration, even if Metal Sonic has been the big bad a handful of times, like in Sonic Heroes.
Chaos Emeralds
This little teaser video features the seven Chaos Emeralds flying at the screen, each of which depict a different character from the movies. What’s interesting about this, is that so far in these movies, the Chaos Emeralds have been handled a bit differently than in the source material. The Master Emerald has been seen to be the one main Emerald, with the Chaos Emeralds being “mini Emeralds” that combine to make it up. This teaser seems to imply that the Chaos Emeralds may be separate this time around, like in the games. Perhaps there will be more of a search for each individual Emerald like there typically is in the games.

Characters
As stated, on each Chaos Emerald is a different character (or pair of characters in Tom and Maddie’s case). Obviously, there’s Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Tom and Maddie. Amy is on an Emerald, which makes sense after she was teased at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Interestingly enough, Jim Carrey’s Dr. Eggman is on an Emerald, indicating that he will return once again. His presence was up in the air after he was essentially written off in the third movie, and Jim Carrey has been stating he wishes to retire.
Another interesting face is Shadow. With so many characters in this movie, it wouldn’t have been a surprise to see Shadow absent from this film to be used in his own spin-off at a later time. It looks like the gang is all here, though, except for Wade, Rachel, or Randall. It makes one wonder if they will return.
Voice Over
Throughout this title reveal video, there’s a voice over from Carrey’s Eggman. He’s talking about how Sonic’s “time” is running out and how the “chaos” has just begun. This might be more than just a menacing evil monologue. The first part could be a huge hint that this will be a time travel movie. This would make sense, as Sonic CD heavily incorporated time travel mechanics.
The second part sounds like another hint regarding the Chaos Emeralds, which it most likely is. That being said, there’s a chance that it’s a nod that Chaos (from Sonic Adventure) or even the Chaotix Detective Agency could be showing up sometime soon in this series. Only time will tell, though.
