Franchises That Somehow Don’t Have Funko Pops

Funko Pops are on the shelves of just about every store. There are tons of collectors out there with many in their homes, and countless others who happen to own one or two. That’s because there are Funko Pop! figures of just about every piece of media, whether it be TV series, movies, video games, comic books, manga, celebrities, and just about anything else. You can even custom make a Funko Pop of yourself now.

That being said, there are some franchises that have somehow avoided working with Funko to make big-eyed figures of their characters. Let’s take a look at what some of those are (at least at the time of writing this).

Nintendo

Nintendo is one of the biggest video game developers on the planet. Their characters like Super Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Kirby, and more are some of the biggest names in gaming and have become pop culture staples. Nintendo IPs being sold as Funko Pops would surely be successful, so why don’t they do that? Sure, there are plenty of Pokemon Funkos, but that’s it. What about Star Fox or Metroid or Splatoon? It feels weird to see all these missing from Funko’s library.

Studio Ghibli

The Japanese Animated films of Studio Ghibli are wildly popular, and for good reason. They’re almost all incredible movies with heartfelt stories and gorgeous animation. From My Neighbor Totoro to The Boy and the Heron, their movies are tales that mean a lot to a lot of people. That’s what makes it so surprising to not see Funko Pops of No-Face or Kiki or Princes Mononoke. There’s plenty of Studio Ghibli merch, but nothing from Funko yet.

Archer

Archer is a popular animated TV series that’s been made even more popular by memes and online discussion. People quote it and wear t-shirts with pictures of the characters on them. There are a whopping 14 seasons of the show, so it makes one wonder how there were never Funko Pops made for it. At least the main couple of characters deserve their own Pop figures.

Final Fantasy

It goes without saying that Final Fantasy is one of the biggest franchises in video game history. Characters like Cloud Strife have become a major part of pop culture and are beloved by fans all over the world. Final Fantasy has found its way into everything from Super Smash Bros. to Magic the Gathering, so one would think there would be Funko Pops made of the series’ iconic characters. Perhaps that will be a reality one day.

Later Series of Power Rangers

There are already plenty of Power Rangers Funko Pops, but only of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Power Rangers Zeo, as well as each iteration of Tommy Oliver. What about the dozens of other Power Ranger teams and villains to pull from? Power Rangers In Space, Lost Galaxy, Ninja Storm, Light Speed Rescue, and the rest all deserve some love from Funko, too.

Jak and Daxter (and Other PlayStation Classics)

PlayStation has a nasty habit of forgetting they have incredible IPs. Not only is this felt with what games they’re developing or not developing, but it’s also felt in what merchandise they sell. Sure, there are Funko Pops of Sly Cooper, Sackboy, and Nathan Drake, but there are so many missing from the lineup. Where are the Funko Pops for the likes of Jak and Daxter, Parappa the Rapper, Ape Escape, or KillZone? These titles still have fans. There’s so little official Jak and Daxter merch that Funko Pops would surely be snatched up quickly.

Jackie Chan Adventures

Jackie Chan Adventures is an absolutely classic Saturday morning cartoon that has a criminal lack of merchandise in general. Anyone who has seen the series loves it, so they’d definitely jump at the chance to grab any sort of official merch, including Funko Pops. The Kids WB nostalgia would be just enough to make these sell like hot cakes.
