Characters I’m Most Excited to See in the DCU

With the success of 2025’s Superman, it’s hard not to feel excited for or at least intrigued by the future of James Gunn’s DCU. With over 90 years of brilliant characters and stories to pull from, the possibilities for this cinematic universe are endless. Here are just some of the characters I’m truly looking forward to seeing, or hoping to see, in the future of the DCU.

Honorable mentions include Vixen, Black Lightning, Star Sapphire, Red Tornado, the Doom Patrol, Stargirl, and more, but this list can’t have a million entries on it.

Green Arrow

I’m a big fan of Arrow and the CW’s Arrowverse as a whole. That being said, the DCU is the perfect opportunity to bring in the more lighthearted version of Oliver Queen that comic readers are much more used to. Green Arrow is one of my favorite DC characters, so it would be nice to see more comic inspiration for a new live action version of him.

Batman

I know, I know. There are countless Batman adaptations, all of which are different. That being said, it’s time for a comic booky Batman with fantastical elements intact. It’s been forever since we’ve gotten to see that on the big screen. Casual moviegoers view him as being in a more grounded, realistic world, and that’s just not right.

Firestorm

Firestorm is one of the most unique and underrated superheroes in DC’s lineup. This two-in-one character has an interesting dynamic, and has yet to be experienced by casual moviegoers. A modern blockbuster budget could really bring Firestorm to life more than ever before.

Zatanna

Zatanna is an extremely fun character, and has even been on multiple iterations of the Justice League and has been a member of Justice League Dark. On her own, though, she’s still brilliant. Her magical powers are a lot of fun, and so are how they work (with speaking backwards to cast spells). She’s been around in the comics since the 60s, and she deserves the spotlight.

Aquaman

Jason Momoa proved to be a fun take on Aquaman in the DCEU, but it’s time for a version that feels more comic book accurate. The King of the Seas and ruler of Atlantis is a crucial part of the DC Universe, so it would be surprising to not see him make an appearance in the DCU. It’ll be cool to see him kicking oceanic butt with his trusty Trident.

Martian Manhunter

Martian Manhunter was one of the founding members of the Justice League, making him an especially vital character. He was meant to have a role in the previous DCEU but unfortunately missed out. It’s actually quite surprising that he hasn’t made it to the big screen in a full role yet. It’s time Martian Manhunter, along with his telepathic and transformative superpowers, gets the movie treatment he’s deserved for a long time.

Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman is one of the big three, the Trinity, of DC. She’s already a household name, but she’s severely underrepresented in media compared to Superman and Batman outside of an old TV series and the DCEU. The DCU needs Wonder Woman, and it will hopefully be her time to shine. She’s an awesome character and the DCU would feel lacking without her.

John Constantine

John Constantine has become a fan-favorite DC character. He’s also often an essential character for keeping the universe intact. He’s always entertaining, performing dark magic while drunk or reluctantly saving the day, He’s also the leader of the Justice League Dark, if that team were to ever form in the DCU.

The Flash

The Flash is arguably one of the four pillars of DC Comics. Unfortunately, though, the previous movie version of the character was… rough to say the least. He’s one of the biggest and best superheroes in history, and he deserves to be done justice on the big screen. I’m cautiously optimistic The Flash will be in better hands with James Gunn at the helm of the studio.

Booster Gold

I know a Booster Gold TV series is already announced, but I’m really excited to see it, even if I wish it was a movie instead. Booster Gold is an extremely entertaining character, and his exposure to casual audiences is long overdue. Time travel shenanigans, hilarious dialogue, failing successfully, and important lessons being learned sounds like a recipe for a tremendous story in live action.

Shazam

Sure, we just got multiple live action Shazam movies, both of which I enjoyed a lot, but I love the Captain. I’ve even cosplayed as the character. I would love to see a new take on him, especially one that actually fights against Black Adam and Mr. Mind. There’s no need for some hierarchy to be changed or for characters to be teased without doing anything. It would be cool to see the Captain fighting alongside David Corenswet’s Superman.

Teen Titans

I’m a sucker for a good coming of age story, and the Teen Titans is the perfect way to handle that in the DCU. There was a live action Titans show, but I think fans want to see them in something better, and to actually be a group of teenage superheroes. It could also serve as a solid underdog story with them being a group of kids none of the adult heroes have faith in. Either way, the likes of Raven, Starfire, and the rest on the big screen would be a blast.
