‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ Trailer Details

The Super Mario Bros. Movie surprised the world in 2023 when it became one of the highest grossing animated films of all time. Now, it’s safe to say a lot of fans are excited to see where the next movie will take Mario, Luigi, and their friends.

The first trailer for the sequel, titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, was released by Nintendo and Illumination, giving audiences a glimpse into the next adventure for everyone’s favorite Italian plumbers. Let’s take a look at all the details the trailer has to offer.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie – Official Trailer

Mini Bowser

Bowser was shrunk in the first movie thanks to a Mini Mushroom. It looks like the effects still have yet to wear off, and this tiny version of Bowser is being kept almost like a pet by the Mario Bros. Based on the dialogue, he may even be trying to act nicer to those around him, but isn’t as successful as he’d like. The trailer has him being surprisingly nice to Luigi while still being antagonistic toward Mario. Could a friendship with Luigi come into play later on?

Planets and Environments

Toad and Peach use a Launch Star to catapult themselves into outer space. The trailer shows us some of the planets and environments we’ll be seeing in the movie. This includes a spherical water planet straight from the Super Mario Galaxy Drip Drop Galaxy, a desert town known as Tostarena from Super Mario Odyssey, and an electronic-looking area with light-up squares with the casino wheel from Super Mario Sunshine on the floor. It’s a lot of fun to see these video game levels and environments brought to life this way.

Enemies and Creatures

One of the most fun elements in the Super Mario games is the wide variety of enemies and creatures seen throughout the Mushroom Kingdom. There were tons seen in the first movie, and according to this trailer, there will be even more in the sequel. Bloopers and Ninjis are both seen. It makes one wonder what other critters Mario and his allies will face on their journey through the stars.

Bowser Jr.

The trailer also gives fans the first glimpse of Bowser Jr., Bowser’s son and iconic villain since the GameCube era of the franchise. Voiced by Benny Safdie, Bowser Jr. seems like he’ll be quite the threat. He’s armed with his magic paintbrush from Super Mario Sunshine (making fans hopeful that we’ll see Professor E. Gadd or F.L.U.U.D.) and is able to use his Wonder power from Super Mario Wonder. He’s also seen piloting the Megaleg mech. There’s also a glimpse of the Clown Car in the background of one shot. It’s cool that it’s not just Bowser Jr., but also his whole arsenal of goodies.

Rosalina

This is The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and it wouldn’t feel right without Rosalina. Thankfully, the trailer shows that she’ll be in the movie and will have a substantial role. While this trailer doesn’t have her speak, she will be voiced by Brie Larson, which was shown off more in another clip posted by Nintendo. Rosalina looks like an absolute powerhouse as she takes on the Megaleg robot, and she seems to have stories about the Mario Bros. It’ll be interesting to learn more about her when the movie releases in the spring.

Animation

Illumination movies are typically well-animated, but the animation quality here is insanely gorgeous. The animation in the first movie was especially excellent, but it somehow looks even better here. The colors, the lighting, the aesthetic, the characters’ designs, and just about everything about it is extremely impressive. This is shaping up to be the best Illumination film visually.

Where is Yoshi?

2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie featured a post-credits scene showcasing a Yoshi egg that ended up in Brooklyn. Nintendo has also stated that a lot of this movie will include Yoshi. So, where is he? It’s really strange that he’s not in the trailer whatsoever considering that’s what’s been advertised until now. Plus, he’s an extremely marketable character. Either way, it’s safe to say we’ll see him soon, and it’ll be very exciting when that happens.
