Questions Left After ‘Gremlins: The Wild Batch’

Gremlins: The Wild Batch, which is the title of Season 2 of the Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai animated series, provided a ton of entertainment for long-time fans of the franchise and newcomers alike while expanding the canon even further. While it is a tremendously fun watch, there are some questions that were left open at the end of the season. Let’s take a look at what those unanswered questions are.

Spoilers for Gremlins: The Wild Batch are ahead.

So there’s just a city in the United States filled with gremlins now?

At the end of the season, Chang, played by Simu Liu, gets his wish of an indestructible city. This is perfect for Algernon (formerly Noggin) and his band of gremlins, as they can infinitely destroy things for fun without ever getting in the way of humanity or harming anyone. Of course, they set up shop there, seemingly to reside there until further notice. So, now there’s just a city of gremlins?

That’s fine and all, but wouldn’t humans be aware of this eventually? Wouldn’t it be a known fact that there’s a bunch of gremlins in the middle of the United States? If so, why are they treated as such a big mystery sixty years in the future? Perhaps they’re all gone by the time the 80s happen without ever being found out? That sounds unlikely, but maybe it’s all we can assume for the time being.

What will Sam’s grandfather use his wish on?

Two of the three wishes granted by Kung Kung were used, but there’s still one out there. Sam’s grandfather finds the wish and keeps it with him, but the credits roll before he ever uses it. Does he plan on using it? If so, what will he wish for? He seemed like he wanted to keep it a secret, so he either knows what he wants to use it on or plans on keeping it hidden forever. Either option could mean it could lead to an interesting story in the future.

Is Gizmo permanently over his evil episodes?

Throughout the season, Gizmo has evil, gremlin-like episodes where his eyes turn red and he desires to cause chaos and wreak havoc. The eventual solution is that he just needed to embrace that side of his for a bit and let it all out. During the season finale, he mentions that he thinks he’s now done with those episodes. How could he be sure? That feels like a weirdly convenient solution.

Does he still have those episodes in the future? We don’t see him have them in the movies, so is it a safe assumption that he’s actually over them, or does he have them during times we don’t see during the films? If there is ever another season of the series or another movie sequel, will we see him freak out like a gremlin?

Is Gizmo still in contact with Algernon?

The end of the season also had Gizmo agree to be penpals with the fully redeemed Algernon. Does he actually write to him? If so, is this something that’s still going on by the time the Gremlins movies take place? It’s funny to think about that while other gremlin-related threats are occurring, Gizmo is writing to one of them. Perhaps this means that this isn’t the last we’ve seen of Algernon.
