I’m Actually Excited For Pixar’s ‘Elio’

Disney and Pixar were once seen as some of the most imaginative movie studios in Hollywood. However, in recent years, they’ve been focusing on bad live action remakes and somewhat underwhelming sequels respectively. Even the great films, like Soul or Inside Out 2 have entertained me but didn’t fully excite me the way their movies used to. I remember anticipating seeing Up on the big screen, but it’s been a while since I’ve felt that way. This is likely due to Disney feeling more corporate than creative in recent years.

With all that being said, though, there is one animated movie they’re releasing soon that I actually feel some excitement for. That movie is the simply titled Elio, which will follow a young boy from Earth who is abducted by aliens to become the intergalactic Ambassador for Earth.

This looks like something much more worth looking forward to than a lot of other recent animated projects from Disney or Pixar. For starters, it looks adorably charming. From the trailers that have been released, the duo of main characters look to have a wonderful friendship that will lead to plenty of heartfelt moments. It also looks hilarious. The comedic moments in the trailers have made me laugh quite a bit.

Most of all, it reminds me a lot of Disney from the early 2000s. Movies like Lilo and Stitch and The Emperor’s New Groove, as well as hidden gems like Atlantis and Treasure Planet all came to mind when watching the trailers for Elio. There’s something about it that gives it the same vibes as those movies, and it made me feel really nostalgic. It’s hard to put a finger on why; maybe it’s the humor, the dialogue, or the space themes. It’s also worth noting that Brad Garret is doing some voice work for it, and he’s done some voice acting for Disney for quite some time, including that era in the 2000s.

It could also totally be that I just like alien stories and this looks like a fun one. It’s been a little while since Disney or Pixar has fully embraced going to space in a science fiction story, so it’s quite nice to see them approach it again here.

Overall, I’m genuinely feeling excited for Elio, which feels great since most of what the studio has done in recent years hasn’t excited me like it used to. LEt me know in the comments if you’re also looking forward to Pixar’s Elio.
