‘Final Destination: Bloodlines’ Teaser Trailer Thoughts

The Final Destination film series freaked out a lot of folks in the 2000s, and gave them plenty of new fears they still have today. It’s been over a decade since the last installment of the franchise, which has proven to be a nice breather. Now, a new movie in the series is set to release later this year, titled Final Destination: Bloodlines. A teaser trailer has been released to get fans excited to revisit the everyday horrors shown throughout this series. Let’s brace ourselves and take a look at what this first teaser has to offer.

Final Destination Bloodlines | Official Teaser Trailer

This teaser trailer is more or less part of a single scene, but it serves its purpose. It’s a good way to gain interest and remind fans what they love about the franchise without giving too much of the movie away.

After watching this scene, it looks to be exactly how Final Destination should feel. It’s dark, not too grainy, and has a twisted sense of humor with how it treats its characters. It also cleverly uses dialogue to get the audience to relate to the character being focused on and wish he was with his family instead of being stuck at work. Hopefully the other characters in the movie are worth caring about, because that attachment allows us to feel for them if they meet their demise.

There is a sense of dread throughout the entirety of this scene. The music that plays, the atmosphere, the grim reaper bobblehead, the “DANGER” warning label, and the way the fan taps the chain all lead to the feeling something terrible is about to happen, even if we don’t fully know what it is. It can make one queasy even before something actually happens. It’s also worth noting that everything is foreshadowed and none of it comes out of nowhere, which makes the audience wonder how it will all come into play, which is oddly entertaining.

Some of the strongest death scenes in the Final Destination movies have been ones that focus on common fears. Things like plane crashes, roller coasters, bridge collapses, and escalators being the focus are especially effective because people may already be uneasy by the thought of them. If they’re not, they at least already understand what makes them scary or uncomfortable. It makes the scene that much more unnerving. Here, the teaser takes place in a tattoo parlor focusing on a character’s piercings. There are lots of people who are afraid to get tattoos or piercings, and many others who know what it feels like to get them. Because of this, people are either already creeped out, or they can imagine the pain this poor character is going through.

It’s also a smart move to focus on creativity over gore. As we can see in this teaser, there’s no blood spewing all over the place and no one is having their guts removed from their body, but it’s still enough to make one squirm and scream. It stands out more and sucks the audience in a bit more than generic gore.

Something that’s particularly curious about this movie is its title: Final Destination: Bloodlines. Why “Bloodlines”? According to the film’s premise, it will follow a college student who keeps having nightmares about her family’s demise. Is this because of something one of the family members did? Does it go deeper than that, like the characters somehow being connected to a survivor from a previous movie in the series? The late Tony Todd is said to be reprising his role from the first, second, and fifth films, so it’s possible that someone else might cameo as well. Only time will tell, though.

Final Destination: Bloodlines releases in theaters May 16th, 2025.
