Marvel Rivals, the online team-based hero shooter based in the Marvel Universe has cemented itself in the gaming realm. Gamers of all kinds have flocked to it due to its fun and polished gameplay and the large number of comic book superheroes and villains that are playable. It makes one wonder what other existing franchises could benefit from their own hero shooter similar to Marvel Rivals. Let’s take a peek at some of the possibilities below.
DC Comics

This one’s a no-brainer. Just like Marvel, DC has countless heroes and villains, all with different powers and abilities. With iconic characters like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, there would be attention on a game like this in an instant. There could be new characters added every season without ever running out, each of which could easily fit into a class-based system that many hero shooters use, like attackers, defenders, healers, and others. Plus, Gotham City, Atlantis, Themyscira, and the like would make for some fantastic maps to play on.
Sonic the Hedgehog

Sonic the Hedgehog is another IP filled with plenty of colorful characters who all have their own special powers that make them stand out. What’s especially interesting with it, though, is that it could tackle the class-based system in a unique way. Games like Sonic Heroes and Sonic Riders separated characters into the categories of Speed, Flight, and Power. These would work really well as classes for a hero shooter as a replacement for what’s typically used. Zoom to the goal as Sonic or Shadow, fly to new heights with Tails or Rouge, and flex your strength as Knuckles or Big. Iconic levels from the Sonic video game series, like Green Hill, the Space Colony ARK, and Angel Island would easily translate into maps for the genre.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is an IP that allows for a lot of mayhem perfecto for this genre of video game. Obviously, the four turtles focusing on different weapons and combat styles would make for entertaining gameplay, but the potential becomes much more interesting when looking at the wide variety of mutants and other characters throughout the franchise’s history. Mondo Gecko, Mutagen Man, Baxter the Fly, Casey Jones, Usagi Yojimbo, and more joining the fray to capture points and push the payloads would lead to big fun. Battling the opposing team in the slimy sewers, across New York City rooftops, through dark city streets, throughout the Technodrome, in Japanese villages, and more with creative playstyles, powers, and weapons would make this a memorable one.
Transformers

From Optimus Prime to Ratchet, to Soundwave, to Starscream, there are a lot of Transformers out there, all of which would contribute something unique to team-based gameplay in a video game. Something that would make a Transformers hero shooter stand out, though, is the transforming mechanic. Switch to vehicle mode for movement. Transform for combat. Those in robot form can protect the vehicles as they’re racing around the map. The potential for strategy here could be really interesting.
Masters of the Universe

Masters of the Universe needs more love these days. What better way than to give it its very own competitive team-based game? With plenty of colorful superpowered heroes and villains, and even rideable tigers, there’s a lot that could be done with a hero shooter set in the iconic world of Eternia. With swords, magic, and all sorts of weapons (including the living weapon that is Man-at-Arms), this is one that would be especially action-packed.
Borderlands

Borderlands is a video game series that has already dipped into other genres, so why not a Marvel Rivals-esque hero shooter? The gaming franchise already has countless weapons for fantastic combat and each character has their own unique abilities to shake up the gameplay. Borderlands is also already class-based, so it would likely translate really well across genres.
Super Mario Bros.

It may sound odd to want a hero shooter based in the world of Super Mario Bros., but it could work. There is shooting in Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. Each character fits pretty neatly into classes, with the likes of Wario and Donkey Kong being tankier characters, Peach and Toad being perfect healers or support characters, and Mario being an all-around confident attacker. Best of all, think of how the power-ups, like the Fire Flower or the Star, would shake up the gameplay.
