‘Split Fiction’ Should Be On Everyone’s Radar

There were a LOT of new video games announced at 2024’s The Game Awards. One of which was titled Split Fiction, a new cooperative game that has two players take control of writers who are bringing their respective fiction worlds to life in VR as they get trapped in the worlds they created. The two must work together to get out of this VR nightmare. Not only is this a fun and unique premise, but it’s something that should be on the radar of every gamer.

Split Fiction is being developed by Hazelight Studios, the same team behind previous Game of the Year winner It Takes Two. Like It Takes Two, as well as another game they’ve made called A Way Out, focuses heavily on cooperation. Each player relies on each other, and there is no way to do it alone. Hazelight Studios has proven that they excel at creating a perfect cooperative adventure, and they’re about to do it again.

In addition to the excellent teamwork in their games, an area in which It Takes Two shined was that there were new mechanics added throughout the game that shook things up in every level. One level would have one player throw nails into a wall for the other to swing from, while another would have each player use a part of a magnet to either push or pull depending on which half they held. It looks like it’ll be the same case with Split Fiction. It’ll be an absolute blast exploring what new mechanics each level of the new game brings.

Not only that, but judging by their previous games and the footage of Split Fiction’s gameplay, Hazelight Studios  makes a point to focus on great story and characters. They clearly know that they’re important elements of the medium. It all makes it an immersive experience. Split Fiction’s story and characters and story, judging by what was shown off at The Game Awards, will be unique, interesting, and entertaining. Visually, it appears that the game will look positively incredible with its mix of science fiction and fantasy worlds.

Split Fiction is set to release on March 6th, 2025 for PS5, XBox S/X, and PC. Until then, it deserves to be on everyone’s radar.
