In video games, it’s always fun to hack and slash enemies with a sword or blast them away with firearms, but it can also be wildly entertaining to smack them around with blunt weapons. I already explored the best swords and guns in the realm of gaming, but there are iconic weapons that don’t fit into either category. Let’s take a look at the best blunt weapons in video games.
12) Mace Of Molag Bal (Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim)

Skyrim is full of plenty of fantastic weapons that fit any play style. That includes maces, which are a lot of fun to use. The Mace of Molag Bal is one of the strongest blunt weapons in the whole game. The base damage of the weapon is incredibly high, and can be super handy at lower levels. Legend has it, it has the ability to transfer the strength of its enemies back to its wielder. Guards even have horrified reactions to this thing.
11) Frying Pan (Left 4 Dead 2)

One of the best elements of the Left 4 Dead games is using whatever you can get your hands on to battle zombies. In the second game, that includes a frying pan. It’s obviously much goofier than the likes of the baseball bat or crowbar, but that adds to how much fun it is to use. It’s surprisingly powerful and can stumble crowds of the zombies with relative ease. It also makes a fun sound when bonking the undead in the head. It’s silly yet satisfying to use.
10) Amp (Infamous 2)

The Amp helped to improve on the already-great Infamous gameplay by making the close-range combat that much more fun and creative. Zeke Dunbar created it for his best friend, Cole MacGrath, so that he can channel his electric energy through it to make pounding enemies more efficient. It looks cool with its unique design, and even cooler with electricity flowing through it. It’s insanely fun to use while also serving as a symbol of Cole and Zeke’s friendship.
9) Stun Club (Ape Escape)

Ape Escape’s Stun Club is super handy when it comes to catching monkeys. Some apes are rather stubborn and aggressive, so stunning them is needed before capturing them with the net. It’s also helpful in battle with other foes. Aside from looking like a lightsaber, the Stun Club is iconic because of its controls. Using the PlayStation controller’s right analog stick to swing it in the direction of the stick itself is a really creative design, so much so that it’s surprising that other franchises never followed suit.
8) Engineer’s Wrench (Team Fortress 2)

Team Fortress 2 allows players to use a multitude of weapons, both long-ranged and melee-based. One of the melee weapons is the Engineer’s wrench. It doesn’t do massive amounts of damage or have any intriguing design. It’s just a wrench. That being said, it grants the Engineer the ability to upgrade and repair his creations just by smacking them with it. It’s almost as if it has some sort of magical properties, but it’s just how technologically advanced the Engineer’s tools are. Plus, smacking foes with a wrench in a game with rocket launchers, grenade launchers, and flamethrowers is hilarious.
7) Donatello’s Bo Staff (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)

Obviously, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles originated and exist outside of video games. However, there are dozens of TMNT games out there. There are even more TMNT games than there are in some major series, with many of them being fantastic. One of the most iconic elements in any TMNT media is the Turtles’ weapons. Donatello’s bo staff is essentially a symbol of the character, as well as a fun weapon to rack up combos with. Donatello is usually one of the more fun characters to play as because of his staff and its long reach as he strikes foes from afar.
6) King Dedede’s Jet Hammer (Kirby)

King Dedede is the primary antagonist of the Kirby video games and appears in almost every entry in the series. Because of this, he’s an important part of a very popular video game franchise. King Dedede would be nothing without his Jet Hammer that he’s always carrying with him. The wood finish and star symbol on the face make it instantly recognizable to anyone who has played a Kirby game. What’s especially fun about this massive mallet is that it uses a jet engine to boost its strength, with each slam sending enemies sky high.
5) Amy Rose’s Piko Piko Hammer (Sonic the Hedgehog)

Amy Rose of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise is usually seen with her Piko Piko hammer. She may have originally been a damsel-in-distress and presents herself as someone who would prefer all things “cutesy,” but Amy is able to surprise her foes by being a tough fighter who isn’t afraid to bash her enemies with her oversized mallet. Her Piko Piko hammer has proven to be excellent when taking on Dr. Eggman’s robotic minions as well as reflecting projectiles and being used to bounce on for platforming.
4) Nemean Cestus (God of War III)

God of War is a franchise filled with a diverse selection of magical weapons. The Blades of Chaos are, of course, the most iconic of the series. That being said, the Nemean Cestus from God of War III are some of the best, coolest, and most recognizable of the whole franchise. Obtained by defeating Hercules, these gauntlets (which are absolutely awesome-looking) allow Kratos to punch harder than ever. They’re the only weapons in the game that are able to destroy Onyx and kill Skorpius. The image of Kratos wielding them has become an iconic one. These lion-faced fists are so beloved that they made their return in the online multiplayer of Gof of War: Ascension.
3) The Cooper Cane (Sly Cooper)

The Cooper Cane is one of the most essential elements of the Sly Cooper video game series. It serves as the playable protagonist’s primary weapon of choice as well as a useful tool for platforming and pickpocketing. It’s also a key to his family’s vault and a symbol of the Cooper Clan as a whole. As a result, it’s been used as a symbol representing the series. Plus, it’s something unique to smack foes around with. How many other games out there use a cane as the primary weapon?
2) Star Rod (Kirby)

Anyone familiar with Kirby recognizes the Star Rod. It’s a legendary artifact that powers the Fountain of Dreams. It has powerful magical properties that can take down the most evil and mightiest of foes. With it serving as a MacGuffin in multiple games, it always feels like something special. It’s such an important and recognizable item that it even became a staple item in the Super Smash Bros. games.
1) Crowbar (Half-Life)

Half-Life may have been a revolutionary step for first-person shooters, but one of its most iconic weapons is actually one for melee combat, and that’s the crowbar. From breaking apart wooden boxes and barriers to battling aliens and enemy soldiers, the crowbar is bizarrely helpful, even to the point where it feels comedic. Many gamers would even consider the Half-Life crowbar to be one of the most iconic weapons in all of gaming, being not only a symbol of the series but of the genre as well.
