Now is the Perfect Time to Bring Back ‘Buzz!’ Quiz Games

The Buzz! video game series is a unique one in which players take on the roles of contestants on a trivia-based game show. This unique multiplayer party game series was released for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Portable consoles and used game show buzzers instead of controllers. Eighteen Buzz! games were released in just a span of five years. The series was also referenced in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale as a background stage hazard.

Each game was hosted by Buzz, a colorful and narcissistic Brit, who added a lot of extra entertainment. There were a variety of rounds in each game that had different rules, like some rounds allowing you to steal points from opponents, some in which you are trying to put things in the correct order the fastest, instead of just answering questions, and some that have players throw pies at each other and eliminate others by answering enough questions correctly. It was always a wildly fun time regardless of which Buzz! installment you were playing.

However, despite the series being popular enough to get so many sequels and have innovative gameplay that uses its own unique controllers, the series just sort of stopped. It’s been quite some time since a Buzz! video game has been made, and it’s super unfortunate. Now would be the perfect time for the quiz show series to return.

For starters, these games are a lot of fun, and fun games should always be made. It goes beyond that, though. Video games can be updated over time these days, which is a major benefit over the PS2 era. This means that new trivia questions, new rounds, and new game modes could be added as time goes on. There would never be an instance of someone memorizing all the answers and winning all the time or getting bored. Questions could be updated as current events happen.

There are so many “ongoing” video games nowadays, like Fortnite, Fall Guys, and Overwatch. A game that puts players in the role of game show contestants would be able to stand out from the rest and could even lead to an interesting online community. There really could be never-ending content for the game, like an everlasting episode of Jeopardy in video game form.

The Buzz! games provided a lot of fun for friend groups and trivia lovers. It’s long overdue for a return, and now might be the perfect time for it.
