The new DCU is on the way, which is set to give DC Comics movies and TV series a fresh start. This new universe is beginning with an animated series known as Creature Commandos. The first teaser trailer for Creature Commandos has been released, so let’s take a look at all the details it has to offer.
Creature Commandos | Official Teaser | Max
Same Amanda Waller, Different Universe
The same Amanda Waller, played once again by Viola Davis, is back. Where this is supposed to be a brand new universe, let’s hope that doesn’t cause any sort of confusion. It seems like she’s up to her old tricks of forming a ragtag group of superpowered folks to do her bidding. This time, it’s a team of odd creatures instead of human supervillains.
General Flag
General Flag, the father of Rick Flag from the Suicide Squad films, is also present. Again, where this is a different universe, it’s a little confusing. Are the previous movies canon or not? If they’re not canon, why not just use the usual Rick Flag? They’re even serving the same purpose, which makes it even more bizarre. Hopefully the series will make things nice and clear so the mayhem can be fully enjoyed.

Who’s on the Team
The trailer gives us our first glimpse of who will make up this new task force. These creatures include Frankenstein, the Bride, Dr. Phosphorous, Weasel, G.I. Robot, and Nina Mazursky (who has also gone by Mermaid in the comics). They all have their own unique abilities and wacky personalities, which should make for plenty of fun fight scenes and character interactions. James Gunn has proven he can take a team of unheard of heroes like the Guardians of the Galaxy and make them household names. That could very well be the case here too.
Voice Cast
The full voice cast is listed in the trailer, and it’s a doozy. Outside of Viola Davis, the series will star the likes of Steve Agee, David Harbour, Alan Tudyk, Zoe Chao, Maria Bakalova, Sean Gunn, Anya Chalotra, Frank Grillo, and Indira Varma. This is a talented cast that is sure to bring these colorful characters to life. What’s really fun here is that if things shake out the way James Gunn and Peter Safran are intending, then these voice actors will also portray these same characters in live action whenever they appear in other projects. This idea of using both live action and animated projects within the same cinematic universe is a unique and exciting one.
Animation
The animation shown in this trailer is nothing short of incredible. The movements are fluid, the character designs are creative, the backgrounds are detailed, and the aesthetic is eye-catching and pleasing to look at. Everything in this series so far looks fantastic. It’s clear that a lot of talent and hard work went into this.

Tone
The tone here is also perfect. It looks like the series will be filled with pure mayhem and chaos. It’s easy to tell from this teaser trailer that the show will be a mix of big action, witty humor, and at least some level of emotion. It’s almost a similar tone to that of Guardians of the Galaxy, but a bit on the wackier side, just enough to make it something more unique. Everything about it feels like a wildly fun thrill ride.
