Seeing how the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe evolves over time has been an intriguing treat for the past decade or so. Now, it looks to be evolving yet again with Captain America: Brave New World, set to release February of 2025. The first trailer was recently released, showing some of the big imprints it will have on the MCU. Let’s take a look at the trailer and every hint and detail it has to offer.
Harrison Ford as Thunderbolt Ross
William Hurt, who portrayed Thunderbolt Ross, sadly passed away a couple of years ago. This trailer gives us our first glimpse at Harrison Ford stepping into the role. The iconic Harrison Ford entering the MCU is definitely exciting, but it makes one wonder why recast him and not just use a different government-based character for this story. It might be a little distracting that the character looks so different from his previous appearances, but it’s not a huge deal. What is a huge deal, though, is that Ross is now the PResident of the United States, which should lead to some interesting storylines. Again, Han Solo himself being in a Marvel movie is a nerd’s dream come true.
Giancarlo Esposito as Unknown Villain
The trailer also offers the first official glimpse of Giancarlo Esposito, who is said to be playing a villain in the film. However, we still don’t have any sort of confirmation as to who he could be playing. Folks all over the Internet are speculating a variety of possibilities, from King Cobra, to Paladin, and even to G.W. Bridge. With Marvel Studios being so hush-hush regarding who the character is, it’s hard not to speculate. The movie’s release isn’t too far out, so we’ll find out soon.

Tiamut the Communicator
Tiamut the Communicator is a Celestial that was introduced in Eternals when it partially arose from within the Earth. It hasn’t been acknowledged much since Eternals, but it seems as though we’re finally seeing the impact of it on the world in Captain America: Brave New World. By the looks of the trailer, it’s not just weather patterns that might be changed by this colossal being stuck on the side of the planet. Various nations might be fighting over it, trying to claim it as their own. Perhaps they wish to use it as a weapon of some sort.
‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier Vibes
Throughout the trailer, it’s evident that the movie is meant to give off similar vibes to that of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It’s a darker political thriller in addition to it being a superhero flick. There’s an assassination attempt with an air of mystery surrounding it. Carl Lumbly’s Isaiah Bradley looks like he’s hypnotized to take out President Ross. Sam mentions it must have been someone in Ross’s inner circle. Who could it have been and why? The feeling that no one can be trusted feels very much like The Winter Soldier. This is a great thing that it feels similar since The Winter Soldier is easily one of the best movies in Marvel’s lineup.
Joaquin Torres Becomes the Falcon
Joaquin Torres was introduced in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and now we finally get to see him suit up as the next Falcon. It’s a quick look, but it’s exciting nonetheless. Hopefully he proves himself to be a worthy successor to Sam after Sam’s recent promotion.
A Funeral, But For Who?
There’s a military funeral taking place, but who could it be for? Fans have been speculating that it could be for Steve Rogers. This would make a lot of sense given that the last time we saw the character, he was much, much older thanks to his choices while time traveling. It would also make sense given that this is a Captain America movie. There’s also the chance that it’s a funeral for Thunderbolt Ross if an assassination attempt is successful, which could then lead to him being experimented on and becoming the Red Hulk.

Red Hulk
That’s right. The Red Hulk finally comes to the MCU and is briefly shown off in this trailer. The Red Hulk is a major villain of the Incredible Hulk, and a massive threat in Marvel comics overall (before becoming an anti-hero). Since Thunderbolt Ross was introduced to the MCU back in The Incredible Hulk, fans have speculated whether we’d see him become the Red Hulk on the big screen. We finally have that answer.
Captain America vs. the United States President
With Sam and Ross in disagreement about whether or not Captain America should be more of an official military position, and with Captain America fighting the Red Hulk, it looks like we’re getting a Captain America vs. United States president in more ways than one. This provides the opportunity to cover some rather interesting symbolism. It’s said that Captain America is meant to represent what America should be, and opposing the nation’s leaders for the sake of doing the right thing matches that perfectly.
