A Fantastic Look At ‘Funko Fusion’

A particularly fun-looking video game is on the horizon. What’s surprising is that it’s a video game based on Funko Pop! figures. Funko Fusion will be a story-driven third-person action game that allows you to play as a slew of characters from TV, movies, comics, and games, mostly under the Universal Pictures umbrella. From what we’ve seen so far, the game looks fantastic.

Funko Fusion – Official Reveal Trailer

There are playable characters from Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, The Umbrella Academy, Five Nights at Freddy’s, Back to the Future, Child’s Play, Battlestar Galactica, Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, Invincible, The Thing, M3GAN, Knight Rider, Jurassic Park, Voltron: Legendary Defender, Xena: Warrior Princess, The Mummy, Masters of the Universe, Jaws, Nope, The Walking Dead, and Universal Classic Monsters

This is a massive list that is sure to please older and younger gamers as they get to experience the IPs they hold dear in a way they neer have before. The game will allow players to explore the stories and worlds of these movies, shows, and games as their favorite characters from them in Funko Pop! form. By the looks of the announcement trailer, it appears as though each character on the long list will have their own unique playstyle that matches their specific abilities from their respective franchise. It’s not clear from what we’ve seen so far, but it’s safe to assume that any character can be paired together and can venture through any world.

Just as intriguing as the lineup of characters and worlds is the story tying it all together. It appears that some villain who claims to be misshapen has been somehow watching these worlds and their stories play out, and he wants to invade each of these worlds to gain their powers. As a result of these invasions, the realities of these worlds seem to be coming apart. It’ll be quite entertaining to see how the heroes (and villains) of these beloved worlds will put a stop to this destruction.

The gameplay and story look like they’ll be exciting, action-packed, and even bloody at times. It can even be played single player or cooperative multiplayer. It’s sure to be an especially fun game.

This is especially likely due to the team developing the game. The dev team is heavily composed of ex-LEGO game developers. The DNA of LEGO games is sure to be in Funko Fusion from the gameplay to the delightful sense of humor. This fact gives us an idea of what to expect from Funko Fusion, and it’s something that gamers should look forward to.

If this game finds some success, there are plenty of franchises that have the potential to find their way into being included. Universal Pictures owns Despicable Me, Fast & Furious, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Psycho, and plenty of other big names in the entertainment industry. Between them and other companies willing to work with them, there could be some fun additions for potential DLC or sequels.

Funko Fusion will be released on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Windows, and XBox Series X/S September of 2024.
