As the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog universe grows, the first TV series set in the canon will be releasing soon. The trailer for this 6-episode show, Knuckles, has been released, giving audiences the first glimpse of what to expect when it drops on Paramount+ in April. Let’s take a look at all the details the action-packed trailer has to offer.
Knuckles Series | Official Trailer | Paramount+
Goal Plate
One of the first shots of the trailer has Knuckles run past a sign with the word “Goal” on it. As he passes it, it spins around to reveal a picture of his face. This is an obvious nod to the classic games. In older Sonic the Hedgehog games, the end of a level was signified by a Goal Plate that would spin around and reveal the character’s face as you ran past it.It’s cool to see that Paramount is continuing to bring elements from the source material into their adaptations.
Wannabe Warrior Wade
The trailer shows that much of the series will follow Knuckles as he trains Wade, the goofy cop from the second movie, to become a warrior. With how silly Wade can be, it looks like it’ll be a high learning curve for him. It also looks like it will offer a lot of hilarious slapstick moments for the audience.

Appearances by Sonic and Others
This story may be all about Knuckles, but it looks like Sonic, Tails, and Maddie will be appearing as well. It’s not known how much we’ll actually be seeing them, but it’s still cool to know that these familiar faces will show up. It wouldn’t be much of a surprise if the likes of Jim Carrey didn’t appear for this straight-to-streaming mini-series.
Knuckles’ Gladiator Pit
Knuckles builds a gladiator fighting pit in Tom and Maddie’s house. Not only is this whole concept absolutely hilarious, but it shows how much of a fish out of water Knuckles still feels like being on Earth. He still very much wishes to be a warrior, even if he doesn’t need to or if the situation doesn’t call for it. Hopefully he’ll learn how to relax.
Knuckles’ Cowboy Hat
A really neat detail in the trailer is that there’s a point in which Knuckles wears his iconic cowboy hat. He originally wore the hat in the Sonic the Hedgehog OVA, and a few more times again throughout the Archie comic book series. It might not mean anything storywise, but it’s definitely a nod to the source material that diehard fans will be excited over.
The Series’ Villain
The trailer introduces the series’ villain, and it’s someone who used to work for Robotnik. Perhaps he wants to get revenge for Robotnik and shares his dream of world domination. He has a plan to use Knuckles’ quills to power weapons and machines and even give Knuckles’ power to his lackeys. This is quite interesting; could this give Robotnik the idea of how to use Sonic’s quills to mimic his powers and eventually build Metal Sonic?
Casino
Another scene in the trailer looks to take place in a casino. There have been quite a few casino-themed levels throughout the Sonic video game franchise, like Casino Night Zone and Casinopolis. The Sonic the Hedgehog movies have recreated levels in the past, like with Labyrinth Zone appearing in the second film, so it would be fun to see that trend continue with one of the casino levels.

Pachacamac
Pachacamac, who was the leader of the Echidna warriors and served as the Echidna chief 3,000 years ago according to the game Sonic Adventure, makes an appearance. He could just be the chief of the current Echidna warriors in this version. For some reason, he’s working in a bowling alley here. Perhaps Knuckles is envisioning what the Echidna warrior chief thinks about his new life. In the games, he’s also the father of Tikal, so hopefully she makes an appearance at some point as well.
Fire Fists
Knuckles appears to have flaming fists toward the end of the trailer. He obviously didn’t have this ability in the second film when he made his debut, so this is something new to this version. It doesn’t exactly match anything seen in the games either, but this power does have a slight resemblance to his flaming uppercut move in Sonic Adventure 2 and his fire abilities in Sonic Frontiers. This is probably what it looks like when he uses maximum power in the movies.
