Power Rangers has been around for 30 years, releasing just as many seasons and a couple of movies. It’s no surprise that it’s remained a marketing goldmine for decades now. With countless toys, lunchboxes, articles of clothing, video games, and more, there has been a ton of Power Rangers merchandise over the years. What’s odd, though, is that all this merchandise and marketing clearly favors the original run, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
Since Mighty Morphin Power Rangers ended all those years ago, there has been Power Rangers Lost Galaxy, Power Rangers Ninja Storm, Power Rangers Mystic Force, Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, and a couple dozen more. However, if you wish to buy a t-shirt, Funko Pop!, or other fun collectibles or nicknacks related to Power Rangers, you’ll most likely just find things based on Mighty Morphin.
Boom! Studios Power Rangers comic books series may incorporate other Rangers here and there, but its primary focus is on the original team. Some of the other series have been adapted into video games while their respective show was airing, but whenever there’s a bigger Power Rangers video game released, like Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Mega Battle on the PS4, it’s centered on the original team. Even in the fighting game Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid, the original Rangers are front and center even though characters from other series are included. The same can be said about the Power Rangers: Heroes of the Grid tabletop game.

It’s truly weird that there are so many series with so many unique Rangers, Zords, and monsters, and yet the focus of the merchandising still remains on MMPR. Fans of Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue, Power Rangers Beast Morphers, and any of the other series in the franchise deserve to be able to obtain action figures, hoodies, and beach towels of their favorites just as much. The IP is now owned by Hasbro, which is one of the biggest toy companies around, so one would think they’d eventually be doing more with toys of all these Power Rangers series.
Yes, action figures, like what’s seen in the Lightning Collection, Morphers, and other toys do exist for these other Rangers teams, but it all pales in comparison to the attention that MMPR still receives. It’s a 30 year-old show now, it’s time it shared the spotlight a little more.

To be clear, MMPR is by no means bad. It’s personally one of my favorite pieces of pop culture ever, and I love collecting all the Funko Pops!, Tubbz cosplaying ducks, action figures, and posters of it. It’s something that I will continue to do. That being said, I’m also a fan of other Power Rangers series. Plenty of others are as well, and plenty of kids are growing up with or have grown up with these other series. It’s time they get the same amount of love as the classic Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
