Star Wars has easily been one of the biggest pop culture staples of all time since the original movie released in 1977. When it hit theaters, fans were transported to a galaxy far, far away where they were introduced to new worlds, exciting adventures, and iconic characters. Since then, the franchise has grown to become one of the giants of pop culture with endless movies, TV series, video games, tabletop games, novels, comic books, holiday specials, and more.
Originally, there was just a trilogy of films that told a solid story with a beginning, middle, and end. After a good while, another trilogy hit theaters that dove further into the lore. This then led to video games and cartoons, and eventually another movie trilogy and a couple of spin-off movies. Now, there’s endless Star Wars content releasing in the form of Disney+ TV series and other media each month.
It makes sense for something like Star Wars that has a whole galaxy rich with lore to have so many projects within its canon. Having that many is far from a bad thing, and just about all of it has been great. However, it has felt like a little too much in a short amount of time. There was over a decade between when the first two trilogies were released. Now, there’s only a couple months between major Star Wars projects.

It’s reported that there will be five new Star Wars series releasing in 2024 alone. Instead of a single movie every year or so, content is almost constantly being pushed out. It makes it incredibly difficult for folks who love the franchise to keep up with it. It’s overwhelming trying to watch so much content of the same franchise with no signs of it stopping. It would have to be one of the only things someone watches, which isn’t exactly fair to the other movies and TV series that we love.
This endless stream of Star Wars content may eventually hurt future projects. If fans find themselves falling behind and are currently watching the latest TV show, they won’t be watching the new show when it releases. It’ll make it look like less people are interested in the new show when in reality they’re just a bit behind.
All this new Star Wars content has been great, but they need to slow it down a bit. Perhaps it’s time they take a breather and wait some time between all these canon Star Wars projects. Obviously, still release them and keep making new and great ones, but let folks keep up with it and get excited for it again.

Like the MCU, the various projects (movies, TV shows, cartoon animated shows) for Star Wars have good ideas, but sometimes aren’t executed the right way. The bombardment and barrage of one release after the other gets a bit too much for viewers to tackle. Like if they released two projects a year (one at the beginning of the year and the other at the end of the year) that would be fine. It’s just a bit too much over saturation of a franchise that, while I understand Disney is trying to punch these projects out (striking while the iron is out in mainstream popularity)….they do need to slow down.

I couldn’t agree more. Like I love Star Wars and the MCU, but when they’re releasing 6 or so projects each every year, it makes it feel exhausting. It’s hard to feel excitement toward it. 2 projects a year would be solid.
