‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’ Trailer Details

After decades of waiting, 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife allowed fans to return to the world of Ghostbusters. New life was breathed into the franchise, and now it’s continuing with the upcoming Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. The trailer for the latest installment recently dropped. Let’s take a look at every ghostly detail the trailer for the highly-anticipated sequel has to offer.

GHOSTBUSTERS: FROZEN EMPIRE – Official Teaser Trailer (HD)

Back in New York City

After spending all of Ghostbusters: Afterlife in Summerville, Oklahoma, the crew are heading back to New York City. The original two films took place entirely in New York, and the city is vital to their plots. The city even feels like a character to an extent, especially in Ghostbusters II when the citizens’ negative emotions fuel the villain and it takes the Statue of Liberty to help combat it. It’ll be nice to see the franchise return to the chaos that comes with New York City.

New Icy Threat

A new threat capable of freezing just about anything looms toward New York. Ray describes it as “the Death Chill” which can literally scare people to death. We don’t get a complete look at the big bad in the trailer, but there are glimpses of them, and they look absolutely menacing. It’s a relief to see the Ghostbusters go up against a brand new threat rather than the film reusing one of the previous villains like they did in Afterlife.

The Ecto-1 Rides Again

The Ecto-1 is back and driving smoother than ever. It’s not much of a surprise to see it in a Ghostbusters movie, but it’s always a joy to see onscreen. The Ecto-1 made its trip back to New York without an issue, it seems. The usual equipment, like the proton packs and P.K.E. meters are also seen. If you look closely, it appears that they’ve received some slight upgrades as well.

Both New and Classic Characters Return

The classic crew are returning along with those introduced in Afterlife. It’s always exciting to see Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson busting ghosts together. More of Phoebe, Podcast, Mr. Grooberson, and the rest is always welcome as well. There are also some fresh faces, like characters played by Patton Oswalt and Kumail Nanjiani. It’ll be hard not to have fun with a cast like this.

Zeddemore and Venkman in Uniform and in Danger

The trailer offers a brief glimpse at a scene involving Zeddemore and Venkman fully suited up in their classic Ghostbusters uniforms. They also look terrified as the ground begins to shake. Perhaps they’ll have a bigger role in the action this time around. Maybe they’re coming face to face with the new big bad. Hopefully they’re not in too much danger. The loss of these iconic characters would undoubtedly be a tear-jerker.

Return to the New York Public Library

There’s a scene that has a character heading into the New York Public Library. This is the same location where the opening scene of the original movie took place, so it’s cool that the franchise is revisiting it. This scene is also quite interesting because one of the stone lion statues out front of the library comes to life. Perhaps the big bad or some other ghost is able to possess inanimate objects, which could potentially lead to some wacky fun.

The Firehouse May Be Destroyed

The firehouse looks like it’s in danger of being destroyed. The doors fly off their hinges, the floor breaks open, and most scary of all, the walls surrounding the ecto-containment unit begin to crack. Not only would it be devastating to lose the iconic firehouse, but that containment unit being broken open would spell disaster for New York City and the whole world. All of the ghosts they’ve ever captured could break loose, which could mean endless destruction and mayhem.

Lucky is in Trouble

While Ray describes the “death chill” in the trailer, Lucky looks like she’s finding out firsthand just how bad it is. She looks horrified as she begins to freeze over. Will she be able to escape? Will she need to be rescued? We’ll have to catch the film when it releases to find out.

Mr. Grooberson and Callie Suit Up

Mr. Grooberson and Callie suit up and don the iconic Ghostbusters uniforms alongside Phoebe and Trevor. It’s cool to see Paul Rudd as a full-on Ghostbuster. It’s also worth noting that they’re also wearing official uniform winter coats. Cosplayers who go to conventions during the colder months have something to look forward to. One question is, though, if these four are suited up together, what does that mean for Podcast and Lucky? Hopefully the wait to find out doesn’t feel too long.
