Saw X recently hit theaters and gave new life to the long-running franchise. With the success of this recent installment, it’s likely that there will be more twisted fun to be had with the series. There is the question, though, of where the Saw movies can go next. Interestingly enough, there are a number of potential paths the future of the franchise can take. See what could possibly be next for Saw below.
Spoilers for Saw X and much of the Saw franchise are ahead.
More Mark Hoffman

Saw X features a mid-credits scene that reveals John Kramer working with his apprentice, Mark Hoffman, who took over the role of Jigsaw in the later sequels. We know that Saw X takes place between the first two films in the series. Perhaps future movies will also take place between existing ones chronologically. If this is the case, we could see a lot more of Mark Hoffman, either working side-by-side with John or later once he’s taken over the role. Since Hoffman met his demise in Saw 3D/The Final Chapter, this would be the only way to have more Hoffman, and the mid-credits scene does feel like it’s setting up more stories featuring him.
Dr. Gordon Continues John Kramer’s Work

Saw 3D/The Final Chapter reveals that Dr. Lawrence Gordon, who survived his game in the very first movie, had been working as Jigsaw’s apprentice ever since. There’s a bit of an implication that he stopped once Jigsaw’s work was deemed “finished,” but is his work ever really finished? It also wasn’t exactly confirmed if he was going to stop or not, so there’s potentially a medical expert out there who’s willing to kidnap folks and force them to fight for their lives. More movies featuring Dr. Gordon continuing John’s crusade could be a lot of fun.
Logan Nelson Becomes Jigsaw

The film Jigsaw introduces audiences to another survivor who became an apprentice to Jigsaw, and that’s Dr. Logan Nelson. Dr. Nelson was, in fact, his first apprentice. He proves himself to be more than capable of hosting Jigsaw’s infamous games, so it would be quite interesting to see more of his handy work. What’s odd is that we see him become an apprentice so early in John’s career as Jigsaw, but nothing of him since. Perhaps now is their chance to give the audience a chance to see what sadistic work he’s been up to.
William Emmerson Resumes Copying Jigsaw

Spiral: From the Book of Saw focuses on the cops taking down a Jigsaw copycat killer. During the movie, it’s revealed that this Jigsaw ripoff is William Emmerson, who’s also called the Spiral Killer. Spiral wasn’t exactly a big hit with critics and many audiences, but Emmerson did get away after managing to trick the whole police force. It would be interesting to see if he continues copying Jigsaw, if one of John Kramer’s apprentices responds to his copying of their mentor, or if he becomes just as big of a threat as the original Jigsaw.
Carlos’ Childhood Drives Him To Become Jigsaw

In Saw X, John Kramer befriends a young boy named Carlos. Carlos grows to trust John and the two care about each other. The final act of the film has John and Carlos forced into a game together, but both walk away unscathed and Carlos is given a large sum of money. It seems like Carlos gets a happy ending, but seeing the things he’s seen as a child could certainly cause some damage. Since Saw X takes place between the first two movies back in the 2000s, he’d be fully grown now. With potential trauma and all that cash, Carlos could become the next Jigsaw. This might be a stretch, or it might be the true future of the franchise. Only time will tell.
