The Scariest Real Monsters in Scooby-Doo

Scooby-Doo and the rest of Mystery Inc. have taken down a lot of monsters and villains over the years. Despite most of them being criminals in masks, there have been a number of real monsters the gang has faced. For a group of teenagers and a dog, battling against actual monsters is a rather scary feat, especially since they’re more used to unveiling which creepy old person was actually behind it all along. Let’s take a look at the scariest real monsters Scooby and the gang have come face to face with.

The Phantom Virus (Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase)

The Phantom Virus didn’t have the most terrifying appearance, as he just looked like a person made out of electricity, but he still had a menacing grin and proved to be quite a threat. His ability to manipulate computer software meant that he could affect anything digitally. If he existed in today’s world, he could crumble nations. For those trapped within his video game like Mystery Inc. were, he was deadly and omnipotent. He could control their surroundings, launch bolts of lightning, and teleport just about anywhere. Unfortunately for him, he’s easily defeated by magnets.

The Black Samurai (Scooby-Doo and the Samurai Sword)

The Black Samurai was an ancient undead warrior who had a rather menacing ghostly appearance. He could fly and pin people to the ground by using magic. Plus, he was a skilled swordsman. He may have been a ghost, but he seemed as though he could interact with tangible objects, meaning he could cut down any living person with his blade after easily hunting them down with his flight. Thankfully, Scooby freed his soul by breaking his sword.

Revolta (Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School)

Revolta, the Waitch of the Web, was an evil spider witch. If that’s not a terrifying enough thought, she could create spider-bats, cast projectile spells, enchant brooms, and control minds. She was overpowered, to say the least. Her goal was to take over the world by controlling the students at Miss Grimwood’s Finishing School for Girls. Let’s not forget that she’s particularly hideous, even for a monster. This baddie was prepared to unleash monster children on the world if she wasn’t stopped by Scooby and Shaggy.

Sarah Ravencroft (Scooby-Doo and the Witch’s Ghost)

The ghost witch known as Sarah Ravencroft was probably one of the most powerful foes Mystery Inc. has ever faced. This undead sorceress had great and terrifying abilities, including projecting fireballs, animating objects, encasing victims in shells of magical energy, and projecting darkness that devoured any physical matter. Because she was a ghost, she could also fly and phase through objects. With the help of the Hex Girls, this horrifying antagonist was sealed back in her book, hopefully forever. The world may not survive if she’s freed again.

The Spooky Island Demons (Scooby-Doo)

The Spooky Island Demons were the first-ever live-action monsters in the Scooby-Doo franchise, and they absolutely delivered. These hulking beasts were able to overrun the island with their strength, agility, and sheer numbers. Their fog breath allowed them to knock out their victims with ease. The CGI effects for them may not have held up super well, but their green eyes, razor-sharp teeth, size, and unsettling reptile-like skin made them incredibly scary to look at. The only reason anyone was able to get away from them was because of their extremely low intelligence.

The Living Costumes (Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed)

The second live-action Scooby-Doo movie had the chilling concept of some of the most famous monster costumes from Mystery Inc.’s adventures coming to life. This included Miner 49er, Captain Cutler’s Ghost, the Pterodactyl Ghost, the Tar Monster, the 10,000 Volt Ghost, the Black Knight Ghost, the Zombie, The Cotton Candy Glob, and two skeleton men. Each with fantastical abilities, like firebreathing electricity manipulation, they could have easily killed anyone they faced. Mystery Inc. felt like they were in over their heads throughout the whole film. The scene where the Tar Monster almost suffocated them felt like the end once and for all. It was definitely scary stuff.

Zombies (Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island)

The scariest Scooby-Doo movie is Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island, and there’s no doubt about it. These may be zombies that aren’t dissimilar to ones seen in just about any other zombie media out there, but they’re pretty gruesome. Mystery Inc. feels so helpless against them, and trying to solve a mystery while dodging hordes of the undead is pretty terrifying. The scene where Fred pulls off a zombie’s head and discovers that it’s not in fact a mask is just plain chilling.

Werecats (Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island)

For the Werecats, think of werewolves, but with cats. That being said, they’re not nearly as silly as that sounds. They’re extremely savage and dangerous. Their teeth and claws are razor-sharp and they have super strength. They can live forever by draining the life source of others and turning them into zombies. They’re willing to kill others just to preserve their immortality, making them some of Scooby-Doo’s most fearsome foes. Just about everything from Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island is shockingly scary for a piece of Scooby-Doo media.
