Forge Should Be Made Playble in ‘Apex Legends’

The popular online battle royal video game Apex Legends is known for creating characters with diverse abilities and unique personalities. One of these characters was teased to be a melee-based character named Forge. However, he was only created to trick data miners who were figuring out what Legends would be coming to the game. In his reveal trailer, he’s teased to be the newest playable character to be joining the game but is immediately assassinated by Revenant who joins instead.

Just like that, Forge was canonically killed, and the developers moved on from the idea of making him playable. That being said, he should absolutely still be playable.

For one, the one who killed him, Revenant, is an undead character. That proves that folks might not stay dead in this universe if something is done about it. There’s no shortage of mad scientists and experiments gone wrong in Apex Legend’s lore (and even on the playable roster), so it’s definitely not farfetched for Forge to be brought back through some sci fi means.

Looking at what abilities he would have had according to the data mines, Forge would have been able to pull enemies toward him, slam onto the ground, rush forward in a straight line to uppercut foes, and gain health by finishing a player with a melee attack. With playable Legends who can heal teammates, poison enemies, block incoming grenades, get extra weapons, put down cover, fly via jetpack, and perform a number of other helpful moves, it’s pretty insane that none of them are melee-focused. Forge provides the opportunity to have a character who is specialized in that part of the gameplay.

The developers over at Respawn Entertainment have stated that they don’t want to add a melee-based character since it’s a shooting game and it wouldn’t feel right. Since just about every other element of the gameplay is represented by a character’s abilities, melee should too. Melee is an important aspect of the gameplay, and it’s something every character is able to do. It’s doubtful that a melee-focused Legend would break the game or be overpowered. If anything, getting up close to an opponent while they’re damaging you from afar would be a bit of a challenge, assuming the player knows enough to adapt to a new character’s abilities.

Fans have made it clear on various social media platforms that they want to see Forge finally become playable in the game. Him being dead doesn’t mean he can’t come back in the story. Plus, a melee character would shake up the game for the better. Perhaps they’ll give the fans what they want and allow them to play as Forge whenever they run out of ideas for other characters.
